I finally got the boat out this morning went fishing couple hours.
When I fish a lot I usually put the bigger walleyes back. But I haven't really done any fishing since last August. So I wanted little fresh fish. The boy and I each caught one 20 inch walleye. Also got couple decent perch. Plenty enough for nice little fish fry.

Nice morning on the river. My son with his only keeper and if you could zoom in enough. There is a bald eagle in the big tree over his right shoulder and one in the tree above the dogs head. Their just a dark dot in the Picture and have to know where to look. LoL but they are there. There were several in the trees all along that shore though.

Our catch of the day 3 walleye 2 Perch.

Nice 12 inch perch

Going to try get out more now that I can launch the boat myself. Don't have to deal with any ice.

There are guys ice fishing in the bay on the other side of the island tree line. There were also guys on the ice in the bay north of the landing we used. The boat land in the bay to the south is still frozen in and guys ice fishing there.
We are in the main channel of the Mississippi below lock and dam 7.

Where's all your snow? We must have close to three feet of snow. Everything's froze over around here. Unless it gets super warm, we're going to have a late spring. We've got another 5-10 inches predicted for the next couple days.

Right here by us we dodged a lot of the snow. Seemed like it came from the west like always. Then seemed to split and most went north or south of us. Then we had rain couple times after the snow. Just weird winter for most part. The ice guys were fishing on in the main channel was gone after one rain. Then it got cold again and couple days later was guys out ice fishing again.. It does that here below the lock and dam.

Nice fish! I remember a day back in Nebraska when we fished out of the boat below Gavin's Point Dam, then pulled the boat on to the ice above the dam on Lewis & Clark Lake to ice fish the evening bite. I imagine, some folks thought we were nuts. Lol

Very nice. I was ice fishing in Trempealeau yesterday. had a nice perch fry for dinner tonight. When I left the lake my spud went through in 2 spots. Guess I'm done there. Oh well, I have sap to cook now!

Other than the water being probably 34 degrees and the air temperature just 40. We aren't doing anything that scary. I've had the boat since 1979 and never sunk or swamped it. Used it hunting, trapping, fishing, dove from it. Could have probably gotten written up for over loading it few times picking shell. Even used to run a bigger 25 hp motor on it. Down sized to the 15 hp so I could slide across the ice easier with it by myself.
I wear a float coat most time on the ice or in the boat when it's not to warm. The coat and pants Jesse has on is made for ice fishing. But is not the float coat style like mine. There is a life jacket for him in the boat it's required. It's actually just to the left of his feet out of the picture. Is right behind the fish cooler.
When others have mentioned like you about me not wearing a life jacket. I usually say I don't want to ligure and die slow in cold water. LoL be like Jack in Titanic just go..

I Always wear one when actually working on river.

I remember late in the spring when the ice was pretty sketchy. But, the panfishing was really hot. We would pull a 12 foot Jon boat out on the ice in case we fell through. One guy walking on each side. That was when I was young and invincible.
