Decided to steal the little Marlin 925 I got my dad last year and make sure it was actually sighted in lol. Our if the 100rd I bought him one was missing and the gun wasn't zeroed at all laugh He probably knew I'd come over to do this eventually and didn't see the need to do it himself knowing him grin Anyhow first time ever shooting a .22mag and honestly found it a really fun little cartridge. Wouldn't mind having one if ammo for them wasn't so expensive. Guess it's the hornet till then

Should also probably clean it not that I think about it. Doubt it's seen a cleaning rod in years .

Question though. Anyone had problems with Winchester .22 mag ammo ? I had shot 10 and only three went off on the first trigger pull. Loaded them back up and they all shot but seems....off. I've had similar happen with Winchesters .22 ammo so figured it's just their rimfire stuff in general.

I have a Savage 22 mag with a bull barrel I bought over 25 years ago for $179. Best and most reliable gun I own. Sighted it in one time and still shoots 1" groups at 75 yards. Never been cleaned.
It will kill just about anything I need it to from squirrel head shots to hog earshots. Just need a good rest.

I have the 883 Marlin 22 mag. I carry it all winter. Its a great little gun. Just point it and everything pretty much drops over dead. Fun to shoot too.

Got a marlin 25m micro groove .22 mag when I was 9, 32 now and it still shoots like a house on fire with CCI 40gr jacketed hollow points. I tell people of all the guns I own, that is "the" gun, just feels like an old friend everytime I pick it up. The stock is even discolored where I rest my cheek from shooting so much. That thing has taken untold numbers of groundhogs and small game.

I have a Marlin 25 .22 mag and it shoots very well. Actually much better than some way more expensive rifles I have shot. I shoot mainly Winchester Super X 40 gr jacketed hollow points. I can get one hole groups at 50 yards. Anything out to a little past 100 is in serious trouble if I'm shooting at it. After that it falls off pretty quick. I wish I would have taken better care of this gun as it hasn't seen much love but has been a faithful servant for many years.

I am a fan of the 22 mag.
I own several
A Ruger 96 lever,a chiappa 22mag over 410,and a CZ 512 semi.
Killed lots of stuff with all of them.
The CZ is wicked accurate.

Does it make a difference who zeros the rifle? I have a Mossberg 22 Mag. I zeroed it, but when my wife shot it, it still shot a nice group, but not the same area I shot my group. I shoot left handed. She shoots right handed. Would that make a difference?

What do you have for a scope? Parallax is different for a .22 vs big rifle. Large rifle scopes are set for 100 yards and a 22 mag is closer to 50. So, your wife could be just looking through the scope at a different angle than you.

Got a 22 mag in a savage . Never used anything in it but hornady V-max 30 gr Once I got it lined up at 35 yards you could cover 5 shots with a pinto bean . At 50 a dime . Oh yea not knocking your targets but they also would have been in the center ! laugh

yes it absolutely can

your heads are different heights off the stock and you hold the gun differently.

it is probably close as in near the target but not quite the same spot.

optic or irons ?

I hardly leave home without my 22 mag.
I have 2 marlins with the 13 shot tube, a 597 semi, and a henry octagon barrel pump. I feel much safer with a 22 mag rather than a 22lr when crossing bear tracks when im hunting small game. Taken a lot of small game, wolverine, wolves and caribou with the 22mag.
Mostly I shoot FMJ but i like the 30 grain v max too. The vmax makes rabbits cartwheel.

Bought a Winchester pump 22 mag when I was 15. It still shoots well as long as one holds the magazine tube not the forearm. Second firearm for me. Traded a mossberp 22 and some bean picking money for it. My mom signed for it as my dad wouldn't.
Likes 40gr ammo best.
I am 74. Think the year I bought it was a new cartridge.

Optics. An old B&L that you adjust on the mounts.

22 Mag is my favorite gun to plink with. Yea it's a bit more expensive to shoot than 22 long, but I don't do it enough to make a big difference.

I have both a Winchester 22lr, and a Savage 17. I enjoy shooting the small diameter bullets.

I never owned a ,22 mag. But after having the .17 HMR, its nice shooting. Close to .22 mag,

Marlin 883 (I think).
Have had it for about 33 years.
LOTS of critters have fallen to it.
It's purdy much in my truck 365.
It likes the heavies. Winchester 40 gainers are what we both prefer.

probably a function of parallax

if you put up 6 dime size dots on a paper and each shoot a group rested and switch how far off at 25 yards are you each on your 3 groups and are you the same each time
is she always right and you are always center on the dot?

does she make sure she has a clear picture edge to edge ? do you ?

22 mag is an absolutely deadly round. I wouldn't hesitate to shoot anything in North America with it, with the right ammo. For whatever reason it far outperforms its ballistic numbers on game. I own four rifles and three pistols chambered in it. The Remington semiauto is deadly accurate but not reliable, if you load any of the three clips I have for it and fire them immediately it almost always functions, but if you load the clip and let it set it will jam quite frequently. I have a Magnum Research semi that is reliable and a really nice comfortable gun, but it will only group about 1 1/2 inches at 100 yards. Have an old Winchester pump that I really like, but the gun I use all the time is my pack rifle, a Rossi Circuit Judge nine shot revolver rifle that is swappable cylinders between 22lr and 22 mag. I modified it so the stock pulls off and makes it a takedown to fit in my pack.

In a pistol 22 mag was notorious for not functioning reliably in semiautos, but mine are all revolvers. Make sure and wear hearing protection when using a 22 mag pistol, it is an earbuster of a caliber in a pistol.

Always preferred CCI 40 grainers myself, both hollowpoints and full metal jackets are very good, accurate, reliable, and function well on game. I've used other brands at times, but CCI is my goto.

Been using 22 Mag far longer than I can remember! Have several in both long arm and pistol.
Always have one in the pickup.
