I went chicken crazy for a while, I had all kinds of cool looking chickens. Bantams, Japanese, Game Cocks, all the breeds I could get. It was fun making an omelet with a whole bunch of Bantam eggs. I sold some eggs and gave away lots to friends. A couple of stray dogs slaughtered about 40 when I was at work one day. They would go out in the woods and scratch in the leaves and a fox or coyote would grab one and take off. You could hear the hen screaming, going through the woods.

The problem with ordering hatching eggs is if you order them from anyone but a hatchery, you are likely to get a box of scrambled eggs. Almost no one can pack eggs that will ship. Its not easy.

I guess if I have enough eggs that I give them away all year, they lay some. I am getting about a dozen a day now. My chickens have never seen a goat, other than me.

I saw brown eggs at the counter at TSC today for $5/dozen.
Here in Springdale AR is George's Hatchery that hatches eggs for commercial chicken farmers in the area. There is railroad tracks and cars sitting around so it must be kind of a big deal. Takes up alot of space! Tyson is located here along with a number of other chicken farms and processors.
