The two have no bearing on each other. "Democrat" is just the name given to a political party----"democracy" is a desired way of life. No country is a true democracy, but we would like to be. A democratic government is not a government run by democrats, it is a government run by the people.

we are a constitutional republic , a true democracy would be anyone with 51% controls everything.
we practice democracy with safe guards in limitations of power and tools like the electoral college so that a few large population states can't set the rules every small state needs to run by.
if 75% of your population exists on <25% of your land mass , then a few cities would set how whole regions or even the entire country would operate
excellent example of this is the ILL state about 10% of counties tell the other 90% how they will pay taxes , be regulated, policed and put into servitude to the most populous counties. to say it isn't working so well , would be sort of an understatement , the best most of the ILL state can hope for is Wanton neglect .
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

No where in The Constitution, Bill of Rights,, Declaration of Independence or any document left by our founding fathers, is the words democratic or democracy to be found. The politicians in my lifetime have been pushing those words. Very few ever speak the word Republic. I wonder if they know the difference? One means the rule of law, the other is two coyotes and a sheep voting what's for dinner.

Yes sir I am so sick and tired of politicians on both sides calling the USA a democracy and yet these idiots still get elected That's what letting the state raise your kids in the public education system for decades will get you. Communist get in control of the system and now the US and freedom and everything good in the world is now bad and the bad good. The devil sure is having a getting time but it's not going to last forever.

The Boy and I had this discussion on the way to deer camp last November. The best I could explain it was, if his school had a vote and over half the students voted to punch kids with glasses, they could in a democracy. In a constitutional republic there would be rules in place to make sure everyone was protected from unjust treatment, the teachers would all bring the results to a meeting room and the outcome may not be the exact vote but would follow the preset rules.
That's the way I explained democracy, constitutional republic, and the electoral college to an 11 year old. Sad most kids never hear about any of these things.
Life sure is tough when you don't learn from the mistakes of others.
