Finally got a new video done this week. This one is about three families of native trees that bloom early and give our native bees and honey bees a kickstart on their brood production. I shot this video with a new camera, please let me know what you think of the video quality.

Hope you find it interesting!

Anthony

Good to hear.

I appreciate good videos like that. I also blasted your milkweed one.

I tell new beekeepers all the time a few mature blooming trees make for better bee forage than a yard full of clover.

A yard is two dimensional, trees are 3D.

Warrior - absolutely. Our main honey flow here is tulip poplar and black locust with a little blackberry thrown in. If we have dry weather when the poplar blooms those supers fill up fast.

I like your videos, I learn a lot from them.
Lots of information on trees that I've seen and knew very little about.

Great video!

Have you read the book: "Plants Honey Bees Use in the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys" by Shannon Trimboli?

Western NC has experienced the warmest first 69 days of a year since records have been kept. Our commercial peach growers are facing three nights of high 20s next week. They say apples will be OK as they bloom later.

Thanks everyone for the kind words!

Oreamnos - I am sitting within 5 feet of about 500 copies of that book as I type this - my wife wrote it!

Charles - its going to be a rough year for peaches - some of the trees didn't get enough chill hours to set buds, and the ones that did are likely to freeze out.

Good job as I for one mark all the (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) willows for cutting for planters. Most bee keepers here put their hives close to willow clumps for the first pollen.
Always seems the elm and maples bloom and 80F weather finishes the pollen time fast here

Could not see the difference in you clip with the new camera

Just loved your video, Anthony. Honeybees are my favorite insect. They make the world go round.

I have planted several varieties of maples , including Amure maple, whos blooms just buzz in early spring , full of bees from neighbors hives. My choke cherry shrubs , that smell like honey , do the same for the bees. Mountain ash, high bush cranberry, service berry, hawthorn , syringa, Siberian peashrub, all help in their bloom stages.

Every place I’ve lived, first thing I do is plant trees and shrubs for bees and birds.

Thank you for such nice videos.

Wish I had seen this video a couple weeks ago, I may not have gotten stung.
