I’m thinking about buying one of these this summer.

[Linked Image]

Kubota RTV-XG850 series.

Any of you guys have one or use one,, what are your thoughts?

I’m getting tired of loading up the quad and trailer every time I go hunting or trapping. It would sure be nice to have my gear on one machine and not hassle with loading and unloading a trailer on the back of the quad.

I’m not worried about going 100 miles per hour. This would be for putting around, trapping in the Fall, grouse and bear hunting, deer hunting too.

Would need to go through some mud spots, but not joyriding through mud holes.

Well I ended up buying a 2023 Kawasaki Mule Pro MX. Bear baiting has already been easier!

We have over 50 of the 900s with cabs at work. They are nice. I prefer a utv over a quad for most things. I have an old Jd gator tx on the farm. It's 4x2 and slow 21mph max maybe but does what I want.

When looking at what's new I lean to the Honda 700 that can hall 4 people or 2 with gear. Seems the best price for the utility I could find.

Wheels look too small.
Not much clearance.
Probably get stuck in the bush
Might be good for logging roads but if its heavy you will have to build bigger bridges to get across the washouts.

2- neighbors have the diesel ones. nice but are heavy and slow -- definately won't go where 4 wheelers do. I don't like the belt drive - every time you hit a mud puddle you slow down more because of belt slippage. Cargo carrying is excellent and are solid machines that hold up well over the years.

Have a family member with a diesel one. Wide open it goes about 20 mph. It is nice for hauling or putting around though.

I help an older couple with her horses and his cattle that have a diesel and it is a workhorse.

The small wheels and low clearance is a concern for me. The width of the machine isn’t a problem.

Are lift kits an option on these?

I definitely need a 4x4, and don’t want a 4 seater. 4’s a crowd! smile

Nice! Have you noticed any belt slipping issues when hitting water holes like H2ORat mentioned?

I went with the can-am 800 defender. Power windows, windshield wipers, and factory heat. It’s been a great machine

One of my camp members had the diesel for years and H2ORat’s review echoes my experience except for the belt slippage. We crossed many creeks and streams with his and I never noticed much slippage.

Eh...wot?

The Kubota and deer like I have are more farm choirs slow machine. If you wasn't one thar is more like a 4 wheeler use you need to look at honda, Polaris, can am. They are built by 4 wheeler people Kobata and deer are built by tractor people. I'm partial to Honda for the built proof reliability.

That 4 seeter I mentioned is a 2 seater that has the option for the bed to fold up and have 2 more seats if you ever need them. The 2 seater only is a little cheaper.

I just bought the 520. It’s hydrostatics no belts. I use it more than my sportsman. It’s slow but it pulls. [Linked Image]

I have the biggest diesel one with full cab heat and air. Nice but pricey no complaints. Work horse and very adaptable - remote hydraulic hookups as well, hydraulic bed etc

Cons:They get stuck pretty easy. They're heavy and don't have enough rpm to sling the mud out of the tires.
Pros: They're pretty reliable and will pull pretty good in low range. They have a huge bed compared to most utvs

If it makes a track on this earth , I can catch it.

Had a winch and 1/2 windshield added. Thinking about getting bigger tires, but first I’ll see what these can go through.
