What license is required to trap coyotes in Texas as a non resident?
Thanks in advance!!

As a resident I can trap coyotes year round along with any other nuisance critters without a trapping license.

The way I interpret the following is that if you are doing ADC work you don't need a trapping license. But steeltraps and Mark June are 2 off the top of my head that have experience trapping here and would know better than me.

From the TPWD website

Quote
Landowners or their agents may take nuisance fur-bearing animals in any number by any means at any time on that person's land without the need for a hunting or trapping license. However, fur-bearing animals or their pelts taken for these purposes may not be retained or possessed by anyone at any time except licensed trappers during the lawful open season and possession periods.

Thank you BT, I believe that coyotes are not listed as a furbearer so I was kinda confused on what was required. I will be turkey hunting in south Texas and just thought I could do some trapping while I was there as well.

BT is right. Have spoken directly to = Texas Gamewarden. If born After 1970 or so you will need hunter’s education card WITH you when trapping coyotes The fur rules dont apply to ADC work. Texas Game Wardens are great!!!! They actually LIKE people from out of state that trap coyotes!!!!

Nice to hear that sentiment steeltraps about GWs, we have some great ones in Wyoming too. They have a thankless job it seems.

Your welcome Foxyote. Wytex it is nice to have good GWs. I watch some of the shows on TV and cant believe how GWs are in the North! Game Warden here. Now he is back in law enforcement somewhere. Once said = I dont see how you can properly run over 100 traps in summer time. Even though laws says 150 ? He showed more concern over = over heated coyotes than anything. Had to bite my tongue. Want to say = Your opinion is NOT law! But most southern GWs are great folks. But as liberals creep into everything it worries me about the future.

If you catch a couple of those really good spotted cats you’ll be wanting a license so you can bring them home with you.
