I've been carrying a Kel Tec P3AT, .380 pocket pistol as a backup gun for a lot of years. Now a days, for a number of various situations, I'm feeling a bit under-protected.
My first thought of a replacement was a single or double 12 ga Derringer. I don't think they even exist, anymore, and if they did, my aging hands (wrists) probably wouldn't stand up to it.
So, now out of my fantasy life; is there something somewhat similar? A not necessarily small, pocket-sized fool proof action, .45 cal or so., available.? i am only looking for a last ditch one or two point blank shots to keep my head from being stomped. Any suggestions?
My primary is a .45acp, so, for an ammo perspective that would be good for the BUG. Any large caliber/gauge is fine, though. Something like a Judge 45lc/.410 in a more compact package?

I'm serious. Scale it down a bit. Not funny.

I think a small frame .38 5 shot is a great bug.

I think a small frame .38 5 shot is a great bug. Yup, although sometimes forget I'm even carrying my LCP. But sounds like OP needs Mitchell BFR as a backup. They actually have a "Snubbie", IF you can call a 45/70 a Snubbie, lol

If you change your primary from a 45 app to a 10mm , you will have more than just a couple of extra rounds in the gun you already have in your hand. ..... Just sayin. A 1911 is nice looking and all that. But instead of the 8 rounds, if I cary full size its a glock 20 with 15 rounds in 10mm or if I pack a compact, its a glock in 357 sig with 15 round mag.

What are you doing that has you so nervous? Back during the Odummy days when Trump was running against the Hildabeast I put a Trump flag on the side of my Barn so they could see it from I-79. It was BIG!! One evening I was in the Barn feeding the Horses when a POS from Maryland took offense and decided to try to burn our Barn down with over 275,000 of Horses Tach and equipment in it. I keep one of my Browning 10 gauges in the Barn at all times. While he was splashing the gas on the Barn I shouted to drop it and get on the ground and that the Police were on the way. He thought he was going to splash me with the gas. Long story short when I jumped back I fired and now he only has one leg and still has over 10 years left in Prison. I never spent a minute in Jail and am still waiting for him to get out and start repaying what the courts ordered him. Yes you never can tell when you need a BUP!!! My BUG at home are about everything I own. The one I would use is my Thompson 45 with nthe Drum magazine and next time it will be his other leg since he has threatened to finish the job.
God please keep they 19 fallen UBB miners out of trouble up there.

I wasn't trying to be rude. Just think the chances that I will ever have to shoot somebody are pretty slim. I carry cause if you need one you will need it real bad. I guess the same could be said for back up. I can not imagine where I would be kidnapped instead of dead though in a I need a gun scenario.

Why? Deliveriing medications after dark in sketchy, and worse neighborhoods Primary needs to be concealed, and sometimes difficult to access with winter clothes and hands full.
I do sometimes carry a .38 spcl. J Frame. I like it, but, would feel better with a little better penetration through winter clothing, and as few moving parts as possible.
I appreciate all the good suggestions so far.

rb seems to think a Browning 10ga is the way to go. If I lived some where I thought I needed a back to a gun, I would be moving. Why live in a place that you thing you need to carry two guns to do your job. Does your work allow you to carry? Do they give you firearms training. The entire thing sound nuts to me.

If anyone kidnaps you, just be yourself and they will want to give you back in under 24 hours and pay a good chunk to hand you back over.
