Im in. Whatever is decided. I live just 20 km off the Alcan and know the road between Tok Ak and Dawson creek well. Im also driving down as far as Coal river quite often so see road conditions first hand.

I think a phone book would need to be set up so it is segregated by state in order to be the most user friendly

Sounds like a capital idea and very similar to what I used when I moved from TN to WA and pulling a loaded 4 horse trailer with horses and what I did when riding horseback from WA to MI. Was a real help crossing MT, and ND. There are some long stretches in those 2 states without cell service and any kind of sizeable towns.

Have a co ordinator with the list of contacts.(volunter helpers)
When someone needs assistance they call the co ordinator,the co ordinator checks a map for location then contacts the nearest helper on the list,if not available the co ordinator contacts the next closest.
No ones info would be public,only the co ordinator would have the contact list.

DejaVue. Incidentally this seems like the best way to handle it to me as well. Just be sure to pick someone in middle of the country (not it.) to be the one with the data base so people can understand them on the phone. Not like NH, MN, WI, MS, LA,.... etc...

I'm in, I am headed to Fargo for work in a few days, would be nice to have backup in the event of emergency. Glad to help if someone gets stranded near me, also. I had a water pump go out in southern MN a few weeks ago, 200 miles from home and destination. Was lucky to get it repaired at 4:00 pm on a Friday. If not, it would have set me back an additional $500-1000 for last minute hotel/rental car and a 400 mile round trip back to get my truck.

SUre seems to me as though there is a need. Even if never used it is a source of peace of mind.

Have thought of the same before in my travels across Kansas. Thinking if we break down I am sure there are some trapperman members close. My thought was even just as much as advice on a decent mechanic or blizzard hits.

I'd be in, could pick ya up give a place to stay and home cooked meal. Might have to put up with me watching a few westerns but I'd gladly throw my name on the list

When I was driving down through Texas, from the upper panhandle on south , to the southeast of the state, driving that semi and towing my friend’s car, I cannot say enough thanks to the men living there , all Tman guys, who kept a keen eye on my travel. All new territory, and in places the wind was just howling. At one point, it blew me so hard I had to pull off a while . My friend of course pulled her truck and trailer over with me and we had to wait in a strange town. My high profile semi just wasn’t handling that wind very well.

Two gals in a strange place, waiting. We were armed, but knowing there were Texan gentlemen looking out for me , guys on here, meant a lot in assurance.

There positively is a need for help, or at least peace of mind .

100% in on this in central Texas. I fly all the time and know what its like to be stranded.

I've got I80 in west central PA covered and have a place where someone could stop with a camper also for a snooze.

I like it. Fellow car buyers that travel a lot to Auctions have a little network. Way smaller scale but gives you piece of mind when the ol girl your riding in starts acting like it wants to lay down.
