I know about the bolt action models 788 and 700 but not about the 722. How does it compare?

721 and 722 were the for runner to the Rem 700. Actions were very close. Stocks were plain.
722 short action
721 long action
These were made from 1948 to 1961 when they dropped them for the 700.
I had one in 6mm. Was a good rifle.

Great guns I wouldn’t pass one up if it’s in decent condition. Like Osagian said pre 700 but almost identical. Most are plan stocked with some exceptions. I’ve got a 722 257 Roberts and a 721 264 Win Mag both are great shooters. I’d like to find a good 722 in 300 savage just because.

All of the above. There were the 721 long actions, the 722 which was the short actions and the 725 which was basically an upgraded 721.
The 721 came with a longer barrel and in those short actions they were very accurate.
You could also get them in a BDL which I know of two. Really nice old guns, in good shape a good choice for the field.

My uncle bought one in 257 Roberts when they were first introduced and traded it to my dad a few years later. It has been in my family since at least the 1950s. It is now my wifes gun and she has harvested moose, deer, bear and predators with it. It has also been responsible for a few dead elk. My grandfather had a 721 in 300 H&H. They are a great rifle.
