Hey everyone, I am trapping a creek where there is a beaver lodge which is really uncommon here. Usually only see bank dens . Does anyone snare the entrances or just the runs? The landowner’s son has been after them with body grips. I am afraid there may be a square shy beaver there . I have caught a 22 pounder on the first check then a 24 pounder and a 36 pounder on the second check. How many would you expect and how would you set it up?

Have you captured the brood female?

Mess around that active den much and it'll be awhile, but eventually you will get her/him/them...

Sounds like you have only caught 1 and 2 year olds so far so I would expect the mated pair is still there and possibly more youngsters.

I got the big female today. 53 pounder. Do you think she has already had her kits?

Skin her out and cut her open. Should be able to tell by now, especially down there. Also, check the teats to see if she has been sucked on recently.
