I worked a match for 5 hours yesterday and my over the ear electronics even with the gel cups installed press my ears into the bows of my glasses and they get sore after hours.

also with summer matches coming up they get hot

Try Decibulz percussive filters. They are non electronic and are the best thing I've ever worn for all day shooting. (But probably not the best for the OPs situation)

I have read that plugs will not adequately protect hearing from the noise generated by centerfire firearms. Muffs are needed to protect the inner ear from vibrations transmitted through bone surrounding the ear. I don't know if that is true or not, but I wear plugs and muffs when at the range. The combined reduction in decibels makes me more comfortable especially when shooting at a covered range. Also, I occasionally remove my muffs while waiting for my rifle barrel to cool between shots and then forget to put them back on. In those situations the plugs really help save my hearing. I generally use Walker electronic muffs.

Sounds are measured in decibels, or dB. With extended or up-close exposure, noises that reach 85 decibels or higher can cause permanent damage to the cilia, or hair cells, in the inner ear, leading to permanent hearing loss. Keep in mind that exposure to sounds higher than 110 decibels can cause instantaneous hearing loss.

Levels and sources of damaging noise include:

85 – 100 decibels: For example, a hair dryer, blender, power lawn mower, forklift, or subway train
100 – 120 decibels: For example, a bulldozer, impact wrench, or motorcycle
120 – 140 decibels: Such as, a rock concert, auto racing, or a hammer pounding a nail
125 – 155 decibels: Like, firecrackers or fireworks, or a jet engine
170 – 190 decibels: For example, a shot gun blast or a rocket lift off
