Most of the beaver I catch usually gets saved for food. The ones I don't save are the ones that have had a chance to sit in the traps for a couple days. All my sets are submersion sets (330s or drowning rigs) This time of year the water temp is still pretty cold, 35 degrees yesterday. My question is how long would you let a beaver sit submerged, in cold water, and still eat it? We hang beef in a cooler for 2 weeks before precessing, but they are skinned and gutted. I would think the cold water would help, but had a trapping buddy ask me the same question and I didn't have a good answer.

For the organ meat probably within 24 hours. For muscle meat I am comfortable with it being several days.

Does the meat freeze good for a short while? I got 5 in the freezer I'm planning on cooking when it warms up

in cold water [winter] i have gone 5-6 days with no problems , as far as meat in freezer it last good if wrap good
