My grandad drove me and my dad to look at hippies. 68-69. They were camped out by a ghost town waiting for the end of the world. A comet was flying over that signaled it. They never left

Great picture. My uncle parachuted into Bastogne during the seize and was killed there. I'm afraid all these heroes will be forgotten with the cancel culture/ history revisionists.

Good man, when I was 18 I strapped on combat boots some time later fought Iraqis, terrorists and the Taliban. I hope my future grandkids look upon my actions proudly as well

They will never be forgotten by people that matter, anyone who chooses not to remember is already irrelevant

Mine was in the woods of northern Mn cutting timber at 21 he left to travel south to the Minnetonka area and buy a farm with his savings a couple years later he was called up to fight in WW1, funny thing is my dad was 22 at Pearl Harbor and joined up the next day 2 days after his birthday like many men did and fought in the pacific, one of his brothers never made it off the beach at Normandy and another served with Patton, another was also in the pacific with a fighter crew and one was in the navy, my mother had seven brothers that served and lost 4 and one was crippled after being held prisoner by the Japanese

They really were the greatest generation, and I never heard any of them complain about the hardships they endured or the privation they went through, if you have never seen one look up photos of the troop transports where men were staked up like cordwood with a whopping 18 inches of space between bunks so that once in you couldn’t turn over of sleep on your side

My dad once said that under every light there was either a poker game or crap game going 24/7 because there wasn’t anything else to do, and the heat and stuffiness was horrible

My father being born in 1922 was about 20 when drafted into WW2. He trained in Texas and then to England.

He was in the communications group. He also was at Bastone (battle of the bulge).

Great picture. Men like him are the true heroes.
