I'm just thinking about something fun to do with my fur check. How about buying a 9mm carbine for target shooting, home defense, and (not allowed to talk about - Paul's Rules)
? Do any of you guys have one or have an opinion?

I looked at them pretty hard. Cheap to shoot be good home defense if you had close neighbors and over penetration was a concern. .

I have a HP 995 and it is a blast to shoot.
I'd love to try out one of those little fold up rigs.

Good looking carbine. Compact. 9mm is getting cheaper and easier to get. Saw at Academy it was down to $28 per hundred and I think they take available pistol magazines. Like maybe M&P magazines? Or Glock? One or the other.
Might be something nice to salt back for hard times. I saw a U Tube on one the other day and they guy shooting it was getting some pretty decent accuracy from it.

Looks like something the ATF would try to figure out a way to ban if they could.

they are a lot of fun

I have an AR-9 carbine and I had an AR-9 braced pistol that feed from glock mags

a great range toy and good training tool better than a pistol in a gun fight but only in ability to make hits they have minimal ballistic advantage basically 9mm doesn't make significant gains in velocity over a pistol between a 5 and 16 inch barrel you only gain 10% in the additional 11 inches of barrel so your advantage comes from the ability to shoot faster and more accurately than a pistol.

I love it for shooting steel at the range , because you can safely shoot steel like you would with a pistol

9mm fmj is not good for - so that puts you in hollow points and that is going to cost a fair but more than 22lr
9mm hollow points run at the low end about $.50 to over a $1 a round.

since barrel length after about 10 inches doesn't really give you any velocity advantage at all more guys are running integrally compensated 16 inch barrels , basically a 12 inch barrel with a 4 inch compensator I don't have one but they are nice.
my carbine runs a blast can because I had it and because I put a 16 inch hand guard on and realized my fingers would be right next to the muzzle , it makes it very pleasant to shoot.

for personal / home defense they can make sense when paired with a complimentary handgun

so say you carry a S&W m&p 2.0 and your looking for a gun to compliment it then the S&W FPC makes sense

if you carry a glock then something in glock mags compliments it .

those things are ok and may have a place but I would take a ar-15 over one anyday.

that is basically the conclusion we came too a good range toy a good training tool , the recoil and speed you can shoot are virtually identical to 223/5.56 the 5.56 is more powerful and more reliable than the PCC

great because you can practice inside, fun on steel , would do for SD/HD
if your carrying something the size of a rifle why not have rifle power?

if you could easily without 2 stamps and a pile of money make it integrally suppressed gun with about a 10 inch barrel, it might change the answer to the question but then again you could run a 300 black out suppressed with a short barrel if you were willing to lay out the cash and tax stamps.

now if the PCC gets your wife out to practice at the range and it makes you both more proficient , then it is totally worth it , the PCC doesn't really do anything another tool wouldn't do as well or better but if the mild recoil and report and ability to practice at the indoor range gets you and or the wife out shooting , having fun and training skills then it is very worth it.

I have a Ruger PC4 that I really like. 40 S&W that uses a Glock 40 magazine. Kind of heavy at 10 LBs but with 15 rounds it has ample close range fire power.
Carry it in the vehicle a lot and comes in handy. It also breaks down like the 10/22 so takes up little room. 2 1/2" group at 70 yards, Leupold shotgun scope.

I'm going to go 10mm to match my EDC handgun. Gonna be a JRC carbine.

I have a little Kel Tec. It is suprisingly accurate for the price point. It is a fun little gun to play with. I took off the front sight assembley and installed a red dot.

My better half practices with an M1 Carbine and tat is her bedside gun and she is good with it. But if push came to shove, there is also a M1A sitting in a corner that she is familiar with bit does not like to shoot because of the recoil. But the M1 Carbine of close enough for practice to be able you operate either one of them. And she knows that what is cover with and M1carbine is probably just concealment when she is behind the M1A

the M1 carbine was the original purpose built PDW personal defensive weapon

intermediate cartridge , semi auto , 15 and 30 round mags

light recoil , light weight , shorter length , there was even a folding stock version of the M1 carbine and the M2 carbine
a personal weapon for support personal

it ended up being used and really likes by troops in more urban fighting where across the street or down the block was the engagment distance.

My grandfather said all the guys looked at the guys that had the 30 carbine and were jealous about that small light rifle as they road and later walked across Europe. But once they hit combat and the bullets were flying the m 1 grand was so far superior its what everyone wanted. My grandfather had a tank grenade launcher attachment on his m1.
