It's not cheap, about 5 years ago almost $800 for a 25 foot maple about 25' across.

I had three taken down in the barnyard one time for $300 cash. It was an off the books deal he did to keep his guy busy.
I would think in most cases price would be influenced by the degree of difficulty of the job.

I do it myself. But if I were paying someone to do it Id make sure they are insured and not some hacks who land the tree on your house.

It all depends on how close to buildings, the condition of the tree. If it has to be taken down by cutting from top down. By using forester or a bucket truck. Who cleans up, chipper or limb and wood disposal. Lots of variables, tree removal can be dangerous and expensive. Or do it yourself , if you are capable. old243

I and my brother have always done mine and my families. They have had them bid out big trees close tom house and wires up to $2500.00. My mom needed one down next to her house, road, tight space, it was a white oak guy charged her $1500.00 total clean up as well.

The majority I would take down myself but any tree with significant lean I would hire out. Look for a tree service that uses a hydraulic boom mechanism as they start at the top and remotely cut while tree segment is grasped then lower segment safely to the ground. Very slick and safe method.
