I Had a well drilled recently which has high parts of Manganese and Iron.
I’ve been researching options for filtering and looks to be a few. Air injection, greensand?. Softener, reverse osmosis.. to name a few.
Anybody have any experience or advise on filtering? I was looking for a whole house system for a small cabin.

Unless your willing to back mineralize your water I'd stay away from a R.O system, it's terribly aggressive.

X2, best/least expensive way to go. New units will take up to 4ppm of iron out of the water.

Manganese and iron are very treatable -- get a water test done (sounds like you already have) - It may be just a simple softener but could be also as extensive as a ro system. chlorine injection helps the iron to precipitate out. check with a couple of different water treatment people - there are some very good ones and some that just go for the highest dollar -- may or may not solve your problem. If you would like send me a copy of your water test and i could run it by my water treatment guy for his opinion.

The hardness is pretty low (106). A softener will remove the iron and manganese but is not really needed for the hardness. You can also use a house hold chlorine injection system to oxidize the iron and manganese and then use a filter to remove the oxidized iron and manganese. You will need some contact time for complete oxidation, 30 to 60 seconds. I would install a backwashable filter (spindown or rusco are a couple of brands) with a 100 mesh stainless steel screen between the injection point and the bladder/pressure tank. This will remove the iron and manganese particles along with other solids (fine sand, etc.) and allow you to backwash the solids from the filter.

Add a carbon filter if you don't like the flavor of your water. Just remember maintenance is required on both types of systems -- neither system is horrible for maintenance.

Looks like I can get a water softener from Menards around $500,
I see some are advertised as whole house filters / softeners, some as iron filters, and some just as softners?
Does anybody have any experience with the Menards brands.

Assuming this would probably be quicker and cheaper going that route than the chlorine injection. I wonder which would remove more contaminants, the injection or softener?

Go with the softener. Your iron level was not that high.

Manganese and iron aren't generally consider heavy metals in the context you are referring to.
Heavy metals are elements such as arsenic, cadmium, chromium, lead, and mercury.
If it were me I wouldn't tell people your well has "heavy metals".

we have to have a softener and an Iron filter.
Our iron was pretty high, high enough so that the water was tinted red.
The softener couldn't take out the iron.
If it wasn't for that I'd of not got the iron filter, I like the taste of iron in the water.

I will check with them, I see they have a Terminox Iron water filter maybe that would be the way to go?
My biggest concern is removing the Manganese and Iron as the water isn't too hard I guess being at 100 mg
Further reading claims you shouldn't drink softened water as the high sodium content, I want something I can drink without more additional treatment.

All above accurate -- with your report I would not be concerned about the iron. The manganese can cause some black debris to come through and some plugging of faucets and eventually metal piping can be expected. Some people do get conceerned about the amount of salt a softener puts into the water -- it is pretty small compared to everyday food items.+
