Anyone have any experience with a Snow Goose hunt in April? I assume you'd have to be in Nebraska or farther north......
A friend has suggested a quick trip out there somewhere to get in on a hunt yet this season.

I live on a huge lake that’s frozen still we had a few snows drop by the other day I went to town today and several thousand dropped in there the last few days it looked like. With this extended cold their patterns may change some with the ice still on.
I hope those sick sky carp don’t come around this year nothing but trouble for me.

Muskeg gave great advice. Snow geese are all females, very unpredictable and once you have them figured out, they’ll make you a fool Didn’t have many here this year, usually have thousands of them in nearby fields, but haven’t noticed as many . Good luck keep us posted on your hunt!

The way this winter is panning out up here I think they'll be hung up in South Dakota for a while.

We have chased the white Devils around a bit. South Dakota has been the best for us that time of year. Good luck with a guide. Most decent ones will be booked. The Facebook heroes are mostly a scam. I recommend staying mobile which is a lot of work and finding a outfitter/guide willing to work that hard is hard to find anymore. Fuel and equipment cost are killing them.
Best guy we ever hunted with retired. We got burned bad by Eaglehead so I certainly can’t recommend them.
When snow hunting is good it’s good but it can be incredibly frustrating to. Plan at least a 3 day hunt and hope for 1 good day and 1 okay day and 1 so so day.
Good luck Curious as to the issues you had with Eaglehead?

There are websites online that track the flocks coming up and are updated I think daily? I have not used the sites but a guy I know well does and he shoots a lot of spring snows. He waits until they get up into areas of the Dakotas and sets for them there.

Just wonder the amount of birds that did not make the trip back they were dropping like flies last fall on the trip down south last year. They were piled up everywhere within a few miles of the lake I could count them out my back door. The flights would go out in the morning smaller groups would hang back and start tipping over one by one.
They wanted to reduce their numbers well they got that wish. I found a few walking in the yard my neighbor had one on his roof walking around, my cats were dragging birds up to the house. Many birds flopping along the shoreline around a 7 square mile lake a few thousand at least. GFP was pretty quiet about what was going on never got an alert just word of mouth and seeing it for myself. Happened in other areas also but again word of mouth no real reporting of places and numbers.

From reports I’m hearing sounds the Avian Influenza die offs are continuing this spring as birds are coming back north. Most here are on the big river now I’m ok if the miss my lake this spring.

Good luck Curious as to the issues you had with Eaglehead? Reader’s Digest version. Was very responsive up to deposits being received. After checks cashed not so responsive up to and including day before hunt. On the way to SD before we were informed of what town to meet in. Finally got a location and time to meet the morning of the hunt. He drove up with blaring music and was the rudest most arrogant SOB. Gave remainder of payment in cash and not even thanks. Follows to an overgrown cow pasture that had 3’ high weeds in it. A spread of about 100 socks mingled around. We said WTH is this and oh well maybe he knows something we don’t. Sat till noon and he didn’t say two words and we never saw a bird. We suggested a move would be in order and he started throwing our gear in a sled and took off on the 4 wheeler. Damaged a gun in the sled while driving like an idiot. Got cocky and wanted to go to fist with the guy that had is gun damaged. He ended up pealing out all of or our money back out of his pocket and we parted ways. Realize I’ve hunted geese from Kansas to Saskatchewan. The other guys have hunted waterfowl from Argentina to Hudson Bay. We have been waterfowling since the 1970’s so we are not rookies and can call BS when we see it. Wish I could find the pictures of the set up. It was classic.
