Our District 3 banquet is coming up soon. I need to get busy hooping some beaver and making a few knives for our auction and raffles.

I cut my hoops last Spring. I cleaned and semi formed them to dry all last year hanging in our wood shed. I chip flint a little in my free time.

I got some bone / antlers donated by one of our members Seth Larson aka " Yes Sir ". He graciously contributed to my cause. I got a few imported Red Stag antler from Poland with the cites autorization tags. They will make some fine knife / axe handles.

I am trying to get a head start since these take some time to get them the way I want them to look. I also would like to make some custom sheaths for each knife with a display case if time permits.

This is a before photo of the components. I will post more photos as I make progress to the completed items.

Good on ya Bob! That is some mighty fine donations there. I am sure they will fetch some good fund raising.

I got my first knife hafted, just needs to set and dry well. Then the sinew will be wound to secure the blade and sealed. What else do you folks think I should do to the handle if anything to dress it up a bit.

Great work, if you wish to dress these up more you can carve designs into them, most will be for display.

Probably some great artists here who may like to collaborate in a funding offer help with the art work !

Maybe inlaid coyotes tooth on both sides of the handle at the base. Another idea would be a hole drilled in the base with a beaded leather loop. Looks pretty good as is though.

I found many good pieces when I have been trapping. Brought some back from Kansas years ago, Arkansas and I have bought and traded some decent pieces from some folks I had seen at trappers conventions. Shipping is getting expensive due to the weight. I have seen different lots of chert for sale on Ebay. Not sure of the quality.

They are really beauties.
Could you engrave or inlay something where the brow tine is cut off?
Maybe on the butt of the burr?
Some leather wrap maybe near the burr with a lanyard braided in?

Knife #2 hafted. It needs to set up well and I will bind it up. With this color blade not sure to go with the natural color sinew or the gold/yellow? Red stag antler from Poland gives a nice look to the knife.

Lots of reflection from this stone with a flash on the camera.

Got the knife wound with a little of both color sinew. I cut out a piece of tanned beaver tail to cover the cut off butt end of the red stag antler. I just didn't like the look or feel of it as it was.

I may paint the ends of the antler sticking out beyond the end of the sinew with some red paint to contrast it a little.
