I stayed at my buddies place in MO last year I wanted to leave him and his wife with a gift card so I picked one up at Walmart. The lady at the register was good enough to ask questions to make sure I was not being scammed.

I’m sure a lot of people are jerks about that but I thanked her for looking out for me.

I had a call yesterday that he was with the US Postal Service. I had a package I hadn't picked up at the local post office and the postage on it was overdue. He said it could be paid by credit card.
My caller ID said he was calling from NC. I live in MN. I just hung up. But, sometimes they are a little smarter and use a local number. Just having your answering machine saying if they are a telemarketer or soliciting you don't accept their calls doesn't mean anything.

I watched a lady on NewsMax who said if you don't recognize the number, don't answer. If it's something important, they'll leave a message. If you don't answer, they don't know if they got a right number or not. Otherwise, if you answer and hang up on them, they will often sell your number as active to another telemarketing outfit.

The difference between animals and humans is that animals would never let the dumbest ones lead the pack.

I rarely answer , unless I have your name plugged into my phone .

A week and half ago I got a call from a number I didn't recognize but something told me I should answer.

Yep , won a gun from the Oregon trappers association ....for real

A few years ago , when all I had was a landline and an answering machine , I came home to a message , please call this number , you won a prize. I barely listened to it , just erased it.
A couple days go by and the phone rings and the guy on the other end is telling me I won a prize , yeah right...
.. I'm thinking to myself what is this guy selling , siding? Windows? Car warranty ?

Then he asks me if I'm sitting down.

The call was from the PA trappers assn. I had won the grand prize in their 2005 raffle. A Polaris 500cc quad with a alum trailer big enough to carry 2 quads. It took a few minutes for it to sink in. I always bought tickets for things like that at sportsmen shows. Not really looking to win , just trying to help.

Thank You PA trappers assn.

Pretty common for them to try something small and see if it goes through. If it works, look out.

Over the last few years I have been contacted by most of these. Most I hang up right away. The ones I like to mess with are the ones clamming to be my grandson. I don't have any grandson. and the ones that are going to have the Sharif or Police arrest me. I tell them to send them. I haven't had a visit with my friends for a couple of weeks. "click" I guess they don't want to talk with me anymore.

The next time they tried it it would have been big. The first one was just a Trial.

Had another Mumbai mumbler call me today said she was from the Bank fraud department and asked if I just made a purchase 10 minutes ago. I said yes I was looking at a new jet in Dubai but cannot decide on a color yet. She goes oh! I said I plan to land it on my aircraft carrier so it can’t be too big. My wife was cracking up in the background.

She hung up on me she never did say what the charge was.

I wonder what would happen if you told. The scanners something like:

"This is agent Whitehall, with the National Spam and Phone Fraud Protection Agency. Stay on the line. You are required under Federal Communications Code 92-346 to cooperate or face a maximum of 1 year in prison and or up to a $10,000 fine. Please state for the record your full name, work address, home address and date of birth."

I dont understand what they have to lose by not going big right off the bat? They apparently dont know how much money they are going for so why not?
