What is the current high demand that is driving these beaver prices? Shearable or hatter? Has hatter prices caught up to shearable?
In the South it has. Yes. Northern good beaver at $30 average is nothing special in the year 2023. Why do you think greony has to go south to get a collection? Good for you, nothing burger for us.

I'm glad you Southern guys have a jingle in the pocket for your beavs, otters, and bcats. A guy has to score sometime. The only road killed bobcat I've ever seen was coming back from Ft. Benning to Atlanta after seeing my paratroop kid graduate from his training so certainly you all have more than we do in my part of SD. We also now have an otter season for the past 2 years, so far it lasts about a week before the quota of 20 state-wide are caught. My local river will be too unreliable if all of our snow melt goes fairly quickly in early April so maybe next November I'll hit the water season when it opens and see if I can score me a few beavs and maybe an otter before that season slams shut. Enjoy your coin while you can ... For sure on the short lasting jingle. Southern fur has always been the 1st to drop in value and the last to increase in value. To say this beaver thing is a surprise is an understatement.

When it corrects, and it will, you northern beaver trappers will be all smiles to the bank. I've ran my fingers thru northern fur before.....our's CANNOT even be compared to that.

Dream big. It's one thing to put a little beaver hair in a 500 dollar hat than actually tan dye pluck and make something of value out of a beaver fur pelt.

Swamp Wolf- I'm glad you are enjoying your retirement. I'm sort of envious and sort of counting months and a few years as well. To be totally working on my own (except working for the missus when needed) looks like a pretty good gig. Have fun I'm still adjusting, but recently I've had to ask the wife what day of the week it was a few times. A Monday is no more important than a Wednesday, or a Saturday....lol. Odd experience.

Swamp don't fall into that beaver trap like i did after i got a 21.00 ave that year, went after beaver like a mad man the next year and of course the market was back to normal, only got a 8.00 average for PUT UP beaver, lol. Probably why i still have such a hatred for beaver, lol.

Yes the south has risen again, if just temporarily Gary M, I saw that pile of beaver in the Penske truck as you were pulling away yesterday. After my transaction was complete I thought.."I bet Gary just did pretty good!!!"

Still, $20USD for a rough skin beaver sounds pretty good. That’s the super easy part!

Still, $20USD for a rough skin beaver sounds pretty good. That’s the super easy part! Yes it is. Nearly every southern beaver caught the trapper was paid to catch it....so these prices for the pelts have made beaver a real money-making item. With what I charge and the pelt along with the castor/sacs/tails several beaver topped $150 each. IF THIS WOULD ONLY LAST! JUST FOR A FEW YEARS... Realistically, for most southern beaver trappers, the best part of these higher pelt prices is not dreading skinning 'em (in the heat) and not being concerned about running the freezers full of the bulky pelts.

Have done a number on the local beaver population over the last few years leaving me none to trap locally this past season. When they went for $3 to $5 green of course. Had I known what was to occur I would have set off for the beaver rich eastern side of the state. If we only knew what next season had in store.....

Plus if you could get 30 bucks for the otter as your going to catch those if chasing 20 dollar beaver. Otter went higher than that..
