Was wondering if anyone else was buying anything with the market being what it is?I keep thinking I should, but I haven't Rex. I don't really have any ideas on good companies that have been beaten down. We're probably coming up on a good time to buy an index fund? I'm not much of a trader, because I really stink at it. I have questions about the economy though. But if anyone has some good ideas, I'm all ears.

If you save $500 per month, you'll reach $1 million in 167 years (aka never)
If you invest $500 per month, you'll reach $1 million in 30 years

Moral: you can't save your way to wealth - you NEED to invest

What is the return rate on that 30 years?

Just going to throw 7% out there More like 9% 500 bucks a month for 30 years at 9 % =$916,845. But that could vary a lot depending on the frequency of compounding periods

I think at the present, world events and conditions are lined up to create volatility for some time to come. But that presents opportunities as well as risks.
Inverted yield curve, rising interest rates, ongoing inflation, bank crises, Ukraine, debt ceiling, increasing fiscal folly, looming recession. low labor participation rate, uncontrolled immigration and fractured domestic political environment..........all add up to a negative outlook for the near future.

That said, I still believe in having a list of blue chip stocks you want to own and buying them when you believe they are at a fair value, AND selling puts on those stocks when they are dropping so you can buy more at lower prices in the future if the market moves down.

You may have noticed on Friday that early action was strongly to the downside with the obvious exceptions of dividend paying stocks. Also, the market seemed to want to recover from the opening bell.

That may be encouraging but bear market rallies are deceptive like that. I still think we have some bumpy road ahead of us.

If we see a VIX above 30 or 40 then I think we are getting close to the bottom. That may be somewhere between 3400-3800 S&P.

Remember that volatility is also upward. Not just down.

I also think that the stock and bond markets are engaging in wishful thinking after Powell's comments on Wednesday.
He clearly said he does not see rate cuts this year. Nevertheless , the markets believe there will be. I think that is a dangerous disconnect

Just  my  2 cents

Just put 10k each into 3 different stocks. HIO=2520 shares
DUK=105 shares
AB=added 250 shares to my 775 shares.
Buy and let the kids inherit the shares---spend the gravy.
