a good set of peep sights is quite nice

if he shoots that well , he will be great with a set of peep sights and new front post on that m94

Its my admirals favorite gun. No recoil to speak of and out to 100 yards or so enough poke to ruin anyones day. She is good with it as well and it lives on her side of the bedroom for those bump in the night moments.

I have dies for it and roll my own. barries bullets make the 110 grain plated bullets for it cheap. Its easy on powder and the cases last for ever. Whats not to like

The historically documented weak point in the design is the magazines. Many reports by those who used them for their designed purpose claiming to swap out mags for new whenever the opportunity was available.

But it's not surprising considering the army intended for the original AR mags to be disposable.

the weak point in nearly every semi auto is the magazine

seen plenty of pistol mags fail , especially when they are getting dropped on concrete floors a bunch at pistol matches

it is a piece of tin that decides if your gun functions always keep spares

True, but in the case of the carbine they are exposed and mass produced, or were. I'm quite sure one can buy modern mags today that are much better than original wartime production.

I was just sharing what many firearms historians and wwii historians have reported. They also say they the carbine was almost universally loved by those that had them in the field.

Just something I thought folks might need to be aware of if they are looking to one for heavy use, especially if using 80 year old mags.

spring technology has definitely gotten better even guns from that era like the Browning Hipower went form 13 to 15 rounds in the same mag with the new springs.

My son has a Winchester made M1 carbine. I have a Ruger Blackhawk in 30 carbine, mild recoil but a harsh report.

Those 30 caliber Blackhawks had quite the bark to them. A guy that hunted with us had one.

I've got a Postal Meter,10/43 stamped on the barrel. In my younger days I took everything from coyotes to deer with it,as a matter of fact I shot my first white tail with it when I was 14.Its in retirement now,I guess,it hasn't left the house in years. It shot most rounds well, but the Norma rounds shot extra special.Too bad they don't make them anymore.

I purchased one in around 1968 from the Division of Civilian Marksmanship through the NRA, paid $20.00, nice rifle, shot a whitetail with it!

I have a '43 Quality Hardware model carbine. It has a Rockola barrel as all QH carbines came with since QH did not make barrels. No problem though, since the Rockola plant was located down the street and around the corner from the QH plant.
It is a blast to shoot. I have numerous original 15 round mags, and three 30 round aftermarket mags. I have not had any problems with any of them.

if they sold it to you prior to Oct 22 1968 it was one of the tens of thousands of Illegal SBRs sold by the US government.

M1 carbines sold between 1963 and 1968 by the CMP were sold Illegally the Government was breaking their own law

the M1 carbine only had a 17 3/4 inch barrel and until GCA 1968 it needed to have a 18 inch barrel to be legal
