Ive had alot of dogs that were smarter than most people too M!

Here is my female border collie and my son, she’s a very smart dog. I’m in talked with a gal currently about buying a started border collie for working with my sheep herd

If you buy a good bloodline most of it is natural...Our dogs mom and dad are both registered cattle dogs....ours too out of sammies best. Very easily trainable if you have the notion.

Yes they are very smart dogs, don’t think it would take too much work to get the one I have now trained on herding I just have no experience doing it.

The last one I had was the best, called her superdog. Great blood tracker, hunted coons like they owed her money, great on the boat and swam like a seal. She made it to over 20 years... Smarter than most people, lol, miss her terribly.

started training mine at 2 months for obedience etc. He has about 30 commands he understands and the vocabulary comprehension of border collies is extremely high. I saw at 8 weeks his natural herding instincts with cats his size and it carried over to every animal he was around. He would always circle,nudge,poke with nose anything to move them towards me. He even tried to herd deer to me under a yr old. I taught him to hunt and find my son in the woods. I use a couple key phrases like find sal or find etc whatever i want his attention on. Bring is another key word,whether it be my hat, goats,cats,cows, anything. A big word is no and come for me. Speak or tell me about it and be quiet are also good words along with wheres the whatever. Show me what you want is another i use and he will look at it then i tell him go there and he goes to it..I also use go there and point or farther. This is just a tip of the iceberg as they will become a a partner for what you need. Just be realistic about their needs and desires.. I also use done to let him know we are finished. He also has a ball and other toys to occupy and burn off steam on days he has no work to do. If you want the ears to stand allow nobody to pet or scratch the ears until a yr old,let the cartilage harden. Basketballs are a great way to let them burn off steam. They have to have jobs,its in the dna. Many things he gets even if we try to spell them to avoid him doing like --r-i-d-e,g-o etc and he still gets it. Be advised if you are thinking of one.....they NEED A JOB to do or they will drive you nuts with their drive and energy. Not really a good town or apt dog as they need room to work. Also they will chase or herd anything. Maybe even a truck!!!! Ours also is a great sheperd and protector with a huge mothering instinct.....NOT a timid bone in him. The other thing is that they pick up on things many times just saying it once so they can develop huge vocabularies. They are thinking machines. If you are wanting a working dog go with abca registration not akc. Abca is american border collie registry of working dogs all the way back to Scotland and the UK.

My uncle had one years ago and you never lost a crippled deer with that dog .

I had a blue heeler for 16 years that found several deer each year at my club.

Mine never failed to find the deer, problem was she then thought it was hers.lol
