Have a few points, was hoping to get back out one last time. 4' of snowpack in some areas. "Our mule deer are probably going to have 50% mortality,” Hicks said. “We’re probably going to be pushing 70-80% of our antelope population that will die this winter.” https://cowboystatedaily.com/2023/0...deer-and-elk-die-from-winter-starvation/

It’s not good here either, talked with a buddy who’s got a place northeast of Jamestown ND. He told me that they’re are 30 dead whitetails in town, 2 in his yard..

There is an overpopulation control problem, not a winter problem. You either allow more animals to be harvest or watch them starve to death. Now they want to shut down hunting? Nature will balance the wildlife herds if man won't. Shuttidown hunting would be the worst thing they could do.. LOL, no.

X2^. I’d be surprised if we have many fawns even this spring. I would think that the does that did survive, may have lost their unborn die to stress…. We have found several dead also, and haven’t even been into the bedding areas yet. No need to bother them unnecessarily right now, will go in once the snowpack is gone and they can roam to new places.

I'm sitting on 7 antelope points. A couple of the regions weren't hit as bad, YET, as most of the rest of the state. Any spring snows will be bad. It may look next year like after the 92-93 winter. Only good news might be they've been in a pretty bad drought situation in many areas the last few years. They needed moisture. I have 9 PP This fall I'll buy another and wait

Nature will balance the wildlife herds if man won't. Shuttidown hunting would be the worst thing they could do. Just like shutting down trapping is the worst thing that can be done.[/quote]
Winter hits with a rare heavy impact that may wipe out 80% of the game, an impact no one could see coming, an impact that kills indiscriminately no matter the game population levels and your solution is to hunt off what few animals do survive? You cannot be serious?

This might be a good year to trap cats in WY. those kittens will all survive for a change.

According to the Mo DNR, only 10% of a population needs to survive a winter to perpetuate a species.

Snowplow Drivers Hauling Off Wildlife Carcasses All Across Wyoming As Animals Continue to Starve Published on March 30, 2023March 30, 2023 in Wyoming Game and Fish/News/wildlife I guess I don't understand why they're hauling them to the landfill. Leave them lay. Other things need to eat as well. Around here if they are on the road the state just gets them pulled off into the ditch and lets nature take its course.
