Tom-I have had both of mine done and it is a lot less problematic than you even imagine. As many have said...you will wake up and be pain free. A little after you wake up they will have you up and walking.

My one piece of advice is to make sure you do all the stretching and other exercises they tell you to do. It will truly pay off in the long run.

My wife had a hip replacement. She had it done as an outpatient. I picked her up right after the surgery. She said she was in less pain then she had prior to the surgery. She was told to use a walker the first few days. She used it the first day and switched to a cane the next day. She said she was stupid to have put off having the replacement done and should have had it done sooner.

From the people I know that have had a hip replacement and a knee replacement at some time all have said recovery from a hip replacement is much quicker than a knee replacement. Good luck, said a prayer for you.

Good luck Tom, my wife had one a year ago. The best decision she made. Good as can be now.

Had my right hip replaced 20 years ago, recovery took months, actually 1 year to get back to normal. Had my left hip replaced 10 days ago (March 22). What a difference 20 years makes. Went in at 8 AM and was home in my chair by 4 PM. Not much hip pain at all but my left knee hurts some. Doc said I may have knee pain for 3 weeks as the knee has to realign with the hip after years of walking with my toes pointed in due to bad hip.

You'll be up and practically normal pretty quick.
I had bilateral hip replacements 5 years ago, I was back working on the boat in 6 weeks.
I'm 5 weeks into rehab for bilateral knee replacements, It's going well so far.... Hips are easier, one hip is even easier again. You should be fine, Do the PT both at the facility and home, and like my surgeon said, "don't do anything stupid", lol

I wasn't aware there was a replacement contest!
2 hips, 2 knees and a pacemaker, what did I win?...

My wife was at the point she couldn’t hardly walk across the room and was in constant pain. The doc showed us the X-ray and said he didn’t,t know how she could walk. Got the hip replaced and she is a new person. Only thing wrong was she waited so long to make the decision to get it done. Walked up and down stairs the next day, do your PT and you won’t have any problems. Guarantee you’ll be in the marsh in no time.

Had one done 2008, other in 2012. Healed up fast both times. Walked 321 miles this beaver season, never any problems.

I'm going to need 1 hip here soon and the other isn't much better. The one got me in constant pain and misery
. The steroid shots don't do much with impingement, no cartlidge and severe arthritis in it.
