Been touring Vietnam and Cambodia with a small group. Beautiful 100 year old French hotels here with mahogany hardwood floors. Words can’t describe the figure and color of the flooring boards. Not tongue and grooved. Surface ales with very small nails. Boards about 4-5 inch widths. Sorry no pics.

Question. Could mahogany make a gunstock? Grows wild here. Also teak. Wooden boats made of teak are never pained. Last for 30 years. Caulked seams with gum from another local tree. 24”boards not uncommon for teak. Almost no growth on boards below waterline. No worms can bore into the planking.

Mud motors of every size along the Mekong. A 50’ boat used for living and commerce uses a four cylinder engine on its mud motor with a 16-20 foot shaft. Skiffs use a small engine, maybe 3 hp.

I like mahogany. When I worked in a cabinet shop, I worked with mahogany a lot.

I have an around 1900 made, antique, Doten Dunton Desk Company, mahogany roll top desk that weighs about 600 pounds. It took 6 people and a skid steer to load it in my truck. I had to build a ramp to get in from my truck bed into the house. The desk surface is the size of a full size mattress. The main board is 2 1/2 inches thick. I paid $164.00 for it at auction and it's worth about $9000.00

I seen alot of Mohogany growing in the Philippines. The locals make awesome furniture, tables, cabinets, beds, and other stuff. Amazingly cheap there too.

Mahogany must have been dirt cheap in the 60's early 70's, could go to the ocean and find nice boards washed onto the beach used for crating from freighters ,before everything went to containers. Still have a few , nice wood to work with.

I have some on the wood rack- I picked it up at an auction years ago when a pattern shop was closing, some of the pieces are 5" thick and all are 10' long. As mentioned, is one of the most stable woods, thus the pattern shop- referred to as The King's Wood .
I'm making a farm table for my daughter out of it.

Mahogany is not to be confused with "Philippine Mahogany", a soft an inferior wood.

Mahogany has several look a likes and several species are considered mahogany by hardwood suppliers. Most mahogany available today is African and of average quality. We use sapele in place of mahogany and is very good quality.
