I thought you meant optimistic about the price. They will come back in price in the future. It is always that way in the fur trade. Just dont put a bunch on the market when prices are low.Too many people do that and it slows the recovery.

Here's my plan how to get rich trapping coyotes, and I offer it for free: First, trap a bunch of nice late fall- early winter coyotes. Get 'em tanned. Learn how to cut them into ruffs. Now buy a bunch of cheap K Mart type winter coats with good design but those terrible looking fake ruffs. Rip out the fakes and install the real ones. Sell them on-line for triple what you bought them at K Mart for.
The end.

I guess my optimism mostly has to do with the fact that I trapped very little this past season. I had a large honey do remodeling project. Fortunately I keep finding crafters that can absorb most of my better coyotes. Now I've got a couple that can use some semi heavies with feet. Can always sell some tanned and used in craft work and trim. I guess I just enjoy chasing coyotes.

The end. I just got a Moyles price list. It will cost you about $30.00 to get some coyotes tanned. I think your idea Is going to lose money, LOL But If you get 100 skins tanned It will only cost you $20.00 per hide. But then you have the shipping costs on both ends.

Coyotes will come back, in about 2060 something if history is any indicator.
Of course, how much they come back to will be the problem.
$100 coyote in 1980, 2020, 2060
..you get my drift. Your grandkids will cash in.

I didn't think there was any competition this year. My coyote only averaged $5 put up so I don't expect much next year.
57 years trapping. It's who I am. Every day is still as exciting as it was when I was a kid but a little more work.

Less trappers but way more thermal hunters driving around.
I let the hound guys run their dogs for Coyotes this year, more fun listening to their dogs run through the woods vs catching one and not wanting to skin it anyways.

I purposely skipped the coyote trapping and regret it. Now I know how much I enjoy doing it. Money is not everything. I was able too trap the last 5 days of Bobcat season and caught 2 bobcats. Also snared 3 coyotes, skinned the best one and sold it for 33.00$. Lord willing! This fall I will be smelling the sage, juniper trees, frosty mornings and harvesting some fur.

Managed a 37 average on 31 duags, 14 were held over late slights that brought a whopping 15 average at the wy state sale. I was pleasantly supposed. the rest were sold to crafters , no middle man. Mostly had feet on. It's a lot of extra work skinning feet on . The problem is shiping eats up profits real fast.
