I have never used Propane Outdoor Grills. Always use Charcoal. I never realized just how much Grease and Drippings and tid Bits of food falls through into the bottom. I keep them in a Bucket and normally dump them out behind the Barn but this time when I was out checking Fence I carried the Bucket up to an old Well Location and dumped it in the Corner. Yesterday I was up checking the fence after the wind storm we had and saw that the Coyotes had worked that pile of Charcoal Dripping and by the looks of it have stopped by many different times. I think in the Future I will be using my Charcoal Drippings as a new set. I will just start piling it against a rock or log to keep them working the side with a Trap.

God please keep they 19 fallen UBB miners out of trouble up there.

Drop those drippings and tid bits in a dirt hole and your next visit will have a small crater there. Cooking oil, bacon grease, gets that reaction from predators.

A variation of the campfire set!

i did a campfire set years ago. was on the edge of state game lands. made my ring, burnt some small sticks and dribbled some bacon on it. let it burn out and put 2 #1 1/2 traps down. 2 days later some deer hunter had a good fire going in my fire ring! didn't do the traps much good!

Interesting observation. I have some coal vanes at the ranch there is one spot that the coal is exposed on flat ground. The coal is broken down like fine sand. The coyotes always walk through it because I see the tracks and must be an attraction or means something to them. Turkey and pheasant use it for dusting area.

Coal shale : One of the best things you can bed and cover a trap with as it sheds water and resist freezing

( Lucky you ! )

Well one thing for sure if you are using charcoal to cook meat with. . .

* Charcoal when burned creates Carcinogens and hetorocyclic amines ( HCA) which enters the meat you are cooking it over,
putting the person who eats it at risk of developing stomach and colorectal cancers as well as damage to your genes.

Meats high in fat cooking at high temps, greatly increases the risk for those cancers even more.
Didn't know that ? Why do you think so many people are getting colon cancer ?

So one thing for sure . . .cook with charcoal , you are setting yourself up for a (possible) early death.
