Sheesh, when you see old photos from this era, a lotta the men using canes probably had a minor meniscus tear and I don’t think that they could clean out the knee back then, so they probably had to use a cane forever, great picture!

Nope. The cane was used for both fashion, and self protection, while in the city. Some of them canes had a sword hidden in them.

Yep some of those had a sword blade and some had a gun barrel, my gramps had one held a 410 shotgun barrel that fired by simply twisting the top, he carried it till the day he died and I never knew just what it could do till the day he used it to dispatch a red fox that came at us showing fight, he also had a derringer he carried up his sleeve, slight shake of his hand and that gun would just drop into his hand quick as heck
