OK so about 5 to 7 years ago before I got sick I took about 200 ramps up behind my house and planted them stretched out across the Hillside. Made it back this year and went up to plant some more when I noticed there were THOUSANDS growing. I knew they would spread but how do they spread and should I keep extending the current patch or pick a different Hillside and start another Patch??

God please keep they 19 fallen UBB miners out of trouble up there.

If they spread that well, you got the right ground. Seed another spot

They spread by sending runners up off the roots.

they also produce seeds.. its the little back pepper looking seeds. you can dig them in the winter by the old seed stems.

Can these seeds ,when dried, be spreading by the wind?

They can be spread by wind as they are very fine and not overly heavy. I have several ramp patches that are spreading nicely. Typically when they spread from seed you will notice scattered single young plants around. As they continue to mature and seed the patch gets thicker and thicker.

Thanks Guys. That is what I thought from what I saw that they were spreading somehow. Now I will start several Patches and let them all grow together.

Hoping to plant 30-40 on my property this year. It matches where I've found them in the past so time will tell.

We have the other main Eastern ramp species in my area, but none on my farm. I've thought about trying to transplant some ramps here for years. I'm just not sure how well they will compete. The West Virginia ramps seem to make larger patches. I might have to order some.

They spread by seeds.the seed heads comes up after all the leaves are dead like a naked lady..flower. usually June or July.

We've sold over 10,000.00 worth this year alone and I've never dug any that appeared to be spread by runners.

I have ramps to se.keith if you need.some.for planting.

So if I keep planting them spaced apart they will eventually become one really large patch???

No. They die. The season is very short.
We stop digging when the tops begin to turn yellow... We have some patches that have already died for the year.

The season on a.month to six weeks or so if were lucky.

This year was a lucky year for us.

Weve hot 12,000.00.
