The larger Ash are pretty much dead. The young Ash seedlings are all over the place and doing well.
A few poles are left alive at this point.

As a side note I still have a couple of American Elms left in the woods that are doing fine, none are too large, about 6-10"dbh.

The emerald ash borers cause cell damage so the tree does not build a resistance like it would with a pathogen. The survivors could make themselves less attractive to the insect but very few if any will survive the rath of the borer.

chemical treatment only is good for the young larvae as they make their cambium galleries ,by the time they travel into the wood the insecticide can not kill them on their 2nd or 3 year
besides the FDA banned application of that chemical

the cold effect theory was put down when they survived -40c/f in Winnipeg winters
lab and field experiments did not match

there is one other flowering shrub that the beetle does live in but I cant remember it's name Zone 6

Because the larvae travel into the wood= then there is a problem with fresh green processed lumber moving around as the beetle emerges later.
Kiln treatment has to be a certain time and length of heat units to be stamped
