I'm moving in a year so, I started to clean out my garage. Holy Crap! I can't believe the useless parts, materials and abandoned projects I need to get rid of. Yeah, I know I haven't been able to park a car in an oversized three car garage in years. Still it would be nice to at least have a decent path through it, an open workbench, and usable shelf. The only reason I started this post was to find something to do as an excuse for not cleaning. Ok,OK, I'm going back to work. Well, first I should maybe run to the store and pick up a few cleaning supplies, so I can get started maybe sometime this afternoon.

Years ago, I lived in town. There was an old bachelor who had a house and an old run down garage. It was so old the base had rotted away on every side. If you pushed on the side of it, it would sway back and forth. For us kids it seemed magical that it would do that. There were no windows to see inside. The only thing holding it up, it was later found after he died was, it was full of "stuff" to the top of the roof!

I have a brother who bought a house and its contents after an elderly woman hoarder died. I remember he gave me packages of toilet paper that were almost as old as I was...from the early 60's!
Incidentally, she didn't believe in banks so had cash hidden around all over the place....to the tune of $130,000!!!!! She had been squirreling away money since the 50's.
My fear of moving stairs is escalating!

I'm one of the worst offenders around! Truly amazing how "stuff" can settle to the bottom and just sit there, so much so, I have no clue where to start on a clean up! I figure it's my revenge on my Sis and Bro who get it all when I'm gone. LOL

it really is a problem which can become out of control easily. Sure. Just watch one of the Hoarder shows on TV. They have a real problem parting with their junk.

P.S. Guns, reloading equipment and components, ammo, tools, traps and anything I want for my shop or activities do not count.
Why work a job we hate, to buy things we don't need to impress people we don't like? 160user--trapperman
I have nothing clever to put here.

I've told my son many times, when I die good luck! And whatever you do sell don't sell it for the price I told your mom I paid for it, lol.

I think the instinct to hoard is a very vital instinct in human beings, that can cause problems, if not directed in a proper manner. Our ancestors needed to store food, tools, weapons and other useful materials to survive. Hoarding becomes a problem when the volume of the items stored starts negatively effecting the quality of your life, especially when the items are useless and valueless.

I knew an old guy that had a Garage full of Boxes. When he died my wife asked us to help clean them out. He had a thousand Card Board Boxes of blown out light bulbs and thought that someday they would start fixing them and he could sell them for a mint!!!
God please keep they 19 fallen UBB miners out of trouble up there.

Is hoarding a sign of other underlying emotional issues? Based on the shows I've seen, it is.
