The title is pretty much self-explanatory... Is all the "shelfish and crayfish oil" sold on the market synthetic, or is some of it actually made from shellfish?

Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

Isn't shellfish oil a synthetic product?

crawfish oil is crawdads soaked in mineral oil then the oil drained off. shellfish oil has always been synthetic

Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

How it that different from a tincture? It's still using real shellfish so not strictly synthetic.

I could be wrong, but I think shellfish oil is a completely synthetic product. I like to mix it with fish oil for coon sets. I've never tried crawfish oil.

Nick Wyshinski contacted a chemist to develope the shellfish oil. He talks about it in one of his books.

I think I will make a little.
I got some from a bygone source that was supposed to be real crayfish oil and it was very different from shellfish oil. Not saying it's better but I like the idea of the real thing better.

The shellfish oil sold in our industry is to my knowledge is all synthetic. If you were to make your own crawdad/shrimp oil / extract it would carry the same mellow oil smell of that creature if done right. Naturally extracted such oils are much milder than most would expect. However, they don't need to be super strong to be effective to wildlife. Distilled odors are most always the most pure and concentrated oils.

A good % of A.I. in a concentrated form would be much stronger than any single live specie odor. Things like that can be processed fresh or slightly tainted. It depends on what you are looking for in the end odor. If I was closer to the southern coastal areas/bayou swamps I would have a batch brewing year-round.
