Friend of mine had some DP Coon bait that reminded me of the aroma of corn silage, and Brady wine.
Did not take much research to see that it was fermented corn, and some folks were doing this for hog / Coon bait
My questions are to those who are doing this are:
How long do you ferment the corn?
What concoction are you mixing to get the sweet and sour smell / taste
How are you storing it?
What are your results?

Years ago I made a lot of fermented corn bait/lure
We have a lot of HMSC siloes in our area. I would pick up a 5 gallon pail in the fall that had fermented say 10-11 months in the silo. I would grind if a bit more to have it give off more odor. I would mix that with cheap peppermint candy melted down and stirred in along with some jack mackeral and add some fish oil to give it a bit more of a paste type consistancy. This was before I had DPs and used in in pipe and pocket sets and as a rat lure too.
I would put it in the freezer after making the mix and it seemed to give off more oder after thawing even.

I used to use feed molasses that was pretty cheap by the 50 lb bag mixed in for fall or warm weather. A dab of oil of anise was another go to but it seemed to me it attracted dogs worse, but since the DP came a long that I guess wouldn't matter as much. As cold weather came along then I would add something louder like fish or aged fish juice.

Back when I was a kid we picked Blackberrys and sold them for pocket change. We had a washtub full that sat in the Barn for about two weeks. My Dad told us it was fermented and put a couple Quarts in Jars and store them and dump the rest in the Pig Slop Trough. The next day we went to clean the Pig Pen and the pig would get up stagger a few steps and fall over and just lay there. We were just young kids and knew we could not go fishing until the chores were done so my impatient buddy went running into the house screaming to our Dad that the pig was dying. Dad came out and poked the pig with a shovel Handle to get it up. It did the same just tottered then fell over and laid there. My Dad started laughing and asked us if we fed the Berrys to the pig. When we told him he told us Go Fishing, that pig is just drunk!! Clean the pen tomorrow when it sober up. We used that fermented Berry juice in every Coon set there was it worked like a charm and the muskrats loved it too on Feeder sets. Dad even caught Grey Fox on that stuff.

God please keep they 19 fallen UBB miners out of trouble up there.

I used to pre-bait locations with fermented corn. I'd take 5gal bucket 1/2 full of corn, cover with a few beers and let it steep. the corn cornels swelled up and you could smell the yeast. Not uncommon for us to catch several coons a night several nights in a row with that stuff.

It works, but man does it stink. You cannot help but get it on you and it lasts for 3 days past forever. I stink too much already. I don't need to make it worse on my family life using it.
