What works for me is a piece of PVC pipe about 36 inches long split down the middle and fastened to a board to keep it on my table and steady. Cleans up real easy also just spray it down with a hose better than making a trough out of boards

Some skinners here use the trough for beaver.
A good design is a wooden frame that sits on a table, with the trough itself made out of 1 inch wire mesh,
keeps the fur cleaner and drains blood from any bleeders(wont get in the fur).
You will be surprized at the amount of detritus that collects under the mesh trough on the table just from skinning a dry fur beaver.

That sounds like a good idea. Could you provide a photo of that?

My trough is mounted on a swiveling bar stool. I stand in one place and skin and when needed I swivel the trough 180 degrees and do the other side. Works slick, I could never go back to any other way.

I bought a nice one years back that was on a swivel. Beautiful piece of equipment.

I hated it for skinning beaver. A 2x6 screwed into the side of my bench worked much better. I sold it.

I dont have a pic of a trough. I dont use a trough myself,I use two tethers with hooks.
Just remember that no matter what you use for clean skinning beaver the height is key.You want to be able to pull the skin more upwards, not outwards for good efficient cleanskinning. The best way is to have the beaver slightly lower than where your hands hang naturally at your side if you skin standing up.

I often thought about making a frame with the trough mounted on top. The frame would have 4 wheels that swivel. Two of the wheels would be the kind that lock. You could spin the trough around and lock it in place.

Beaver trough made out of 1x4 lumber. Length can vary but usually around 24 inches.

I'll get another pic of just the trough here directly, but this is the point at which I roll the beaver over and do the other side. You notice that the trough holds the beaver in position so that you can easily keep nudging it over as you skin.

Boco, they don't let you skin beaver in the bars up north? I would have thought that more popular than darts or billiards in your country.

I'm new at beaver skinning. I 've a terrible time with it. Really bad with the face. I think the trough will be a big help.
I appreciate the comments and pictures

I use up to four knives skinning. For the face I use a dexter that easily sharpens with a few strokes on a steel. That way I don't sweat dulling a knife on hitting bone which you tend to do skinning out the head.

So do you skin the whole body and then do the head/face like on a gambrel?

I work a line going from the tail to the tip of the nose so by the time I flip the beaver in the trough I've skinned one side of the head usually including one eye and one ear. After flipping and having skinned both sides the last thing is the head, or most of the head which I quickly skin out with that big ol' Dexter.

Not necessarily my best carpentry ever but I like it. To keep it from swiveling while I'm skinning I usually have my body pressed against one corner to stabilize.

(I don't know why you would want to have a gap for the blood to go through...don't you guys save that for boudin)?
