Just sold my 15 green, frozen beaver to Gary Groenewold in Adams, N.Y.

2 kits @ $5.00 each.
4 mediums @ $10.00 each.
7 XL's @ $20.00 each.
2 2XL's @ $30.00 each.

$16.67 average

10 to 12 trappers pickups were there selling fur.

The beaver truck was already 4/5ths full to overflowing,
with bumper dragging the ground. when Gary arrived 1/2 hour late

otter 25 to 30
mink 2 to 4
rats 1, 2.50, 4
coon 2, 4, 10
coyotes 10 to 17
reds 7
greys 7
fisher 25-ish
bobcats 30 to 100

Castor was $10.00 a pound

His prices are too low ! 25 ish for fisher, 7 on fox, 16.67 on beaver, and $ 10 on castor. Somebody is making an awful lot of money profit. From now on I'll put up my beaver and sell at Ballston or Herkimer.

If his prices were too low, why did you sell to him ?

Apparently a $20.00 average on green beaver yesterday
in Warrensburg, N.Y. wasn't too low !!! laugh

I too, for the first time, sold to the groeny truck. I agree with fisher man, the prices are too low. I understand the niche that groeny fills. Some people don't have the time, room, etc to put up their own fur. I don't have a problem with groeny making money. I'm a capitalist too. Here's the way I see it. When you sell to groeny his goal is to buy the fur as cheaply as possible. When you sell to furharvesters or a local auction, their goal is to sell as high as possible. That benefits the trapper. It's a complete reversal of mindset. The other thing that you lose with groeny is any upside potential. I once sent a red fox up that I thought would get $40 and it sold for $93. Of course, when selling up North, there's a potential for prices to drop also. It's a chance you take. I only sold green because I had shoulder surgery and couldn't scrape anything. I've always thought putting up fur was part of the experience. Like I said, I understand why you would sell to the truck... It's just not for me

I put up all my fur but beaver.

Greys, coon, mink, rats, and skunks.

With two torn rotator cuffs and a bad back,
my days of fleshing & boarding, or even catching
a bunch of beaver are over.

GRONEY ROCKS !!! laugh

Unless you live in the southern US...then it's "sell to the truck." There are no FH receiving agents down here. So, boxing/shipping/commission is out of the question.

No receiving agents in Oregon either. I have to drive up to Washington.

I had surgery yesterday morning. My wife had to drive me to Warrensburgh to sell my furs because of the remnants of the anesthesia..Most of my fur went to Herkimer with a friend.I wanted to clean out my fur freezer, so I did not dicker. I've had severe health issues since the beginning of the. year. I like putting up my fur, take pride in it, but only rough skinning and freezing beaver was my choice. A lot easier. No more, I'm putting up everything. One more factor, I'm 85 years old, and have slowed down a tad.

85! I get enjoying putting up fur BUT when the body wear's out it's just wore out! Im 57 and already wearing down, doubt i ever make it to 85 but if i do i'll be happy if i can still just walk around a walmart much less trap beaver and no way id be putting them up, lol. I can't work a fleshing knife now, need to get surgery on my left elbow but can't ever find the time to slow down long enough to do it.

When sending furs away to auction you also run the the risk of having your cats sold and never receive a check ala NAFA. And like others have said FHA doesn’t run any routes down here.I sold beaver, cats and rats to Groeny April 1st and believe I was treated fairly. I’m glad that he’s an option for us.

J at 85 you won't be walking around at Walmart...you'll be a door greeter...lol
It was told to me a few years back by a veteran trapper, "We want as many fur buyers as possible, that give trappers an option where they can sell their fur."
Groney is in business to make money so are we. With fur markets being tight there just aren't many options for trappers.
And WOODLOT my hats to you Sir...keep on trapping and skinning fur!

I've never sold any furs yet. When selling green beaver, do they buy them rolled up and still frozen? How do they check size and quality?
