A relative was visiting Kazan, Russia this weekend and sent me this pic. I’ve identified (I think) all the furs except the two light brown and white ones. Anybody know what they are?

Thanks, it was the hares that I couldn't get. I wonder if they are the same specie as our snowshoe hare?

They are classified as different species but I bet they are very similar. Snowshoe or varying hare (Lepus americanus) vs. mountain hare (Lepus timidus).

“Happy People: A Year in the Taiga” documentary is pretty good. It’s a story about an isolated Russian trappers.

Way bigger than ours by the look of those skins.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

I've seen it and it is a good documentary. It's available free on the web.

Yeah, that's probably why I didn't consider that they might be rabbits/hares.

They aren't very big I think, it's the perspective and they look open-skinned, and the fox is hanging by the neck and looks small (and probably is small). Hypothetically they could be big rabbit skins, or even something like kid skins (goats come in all sorts of weird colors) because this whole installation is not necessarily very authentic, but I think they're hares. Our bunnies weigh around 10 pounds on average and are probably very similar to L. americanus. I only catch them when they're white though...

If your mountain hares average ten pounds then they are much larger than our snowshoe hares which average between three and four pounds.

I thought the hares in the picture looked case skinned but it’s hard to tell. They do look big.

Thanks for all the information Tatiana.

Great pics Tatiana. That pie looks like it would taste wonderful, I love eating rabbit/hare.

I had to look up arctic hare, I didn’t know anything about them. According to what I read I think you are right, they are closely related to your mountain hare. They are very large averaging six to twelve pounds and the article said large ones can get up to fifteen pounds!

Eh...wot?
