Looks to me that if you are Choctaw you can use snares and body grip traps up to 160 size on dry ground. Has anybody else read the Choctaw Game and Fish regulations and noticed that?
If that is the case, it seems a little racist that I can trap on the same public ground as somebody that’s got a Choctaw ID card. They can use snares and Conis up to 160 on dry ground. BUT, as a white guy I cannot….

BUT, as a white guy I cannot…. I remember reading that Cherokees get free hunting licenses. I have no reason to look but I would be shocked if the Choctaws don't also get them. Free licenses and special regulations are examples of more pandering to the Indians. We already gave them casinos and commodity cheese. We should be square. As far as snares and conibears go, I officially self identify as Choctaw. This post is my big reveal.

I’m not so sure they do get free licenses, Blaine. I want to say there was a dust up between the trunks and Gov. Stitt and they no longer have the agreement they use to have.

Thanks for the info, Brofisher. No entity GAVE indians casino! The US govt. recognized reservations as sovereign land, separate from all other lands. Country within a country! Thus indians could write their own laws and most, not all, tribes have opened casinos. If all Okies can hunt/trap on tribal land count yourself lucky. Not that way in most places. Supreme Court made some decision a few years ago that affected all of OK. I think. Bro, out of curiosity, what percent Choctaw does your tribal ID say you are? What is the minimum percentage to get an ID and the benefits associated with it? My wife is an Ark. born American. Her cousins there showed an indigenous person in their ancestry but no one back then made an effort to associate with a tribe. Alaska never had, "tribe". The natives got regional and village corporations in 1971. However, they started realizing how much money they were leaving on the table and began crying to be tribes also. Under Clinton, Ada Deer, waived her magic wand and all village Corp. became tribes also. So Bro, Alaska natives swept a good portion of BIA money off the table leaving lowe48 tribes with less to divide! Up until a couple months ago, Alaska tribes didn't have land and thus no casinos. However, a tribe near Anchorage twisted some rules in their favor and opened a casino on a piece of land they rented. Indian gaming comm. gave their blessing! State is in court!

Hey Wesley! I'm a Choctaw member and would like to try to clear some things up for you. I'm pretty sure you as a non-Indian can hunt on the Choctaw reservation as long as you have a state license and follow their code, not the state's. Read all of the Choctaw Nation Fish, Game, and Animals Code carefully. Trapping is a form of hunting in their code. The Choctaw Nation allows everyone to hunt and fish on their lands but the state has no say. Only the US can have a say. I'd like to remind you that the Indians of Oklahoma where striped of their lands in the south so the white man could sell and use the lands for themselves. They were forced to walk to new land which is in what is now in Oklahoma. They signed their treaties (which gives them the right to hunt and fish on their land) with the US in the mid 1800s. Oklahoma was not a state until Nov. 1907. Their treaties says they are a sovereign nation, under the control of the US. A country within a county so they have their own laws and government. Follow them on their lands and your OK dude. Don't go by the states rules! To address the license issue the Choctaw Nation use to buy 250,000 (there are currently only roughly 225,000 members) licenses for for their members at $1 each from the state until the Gov didn't renew their compact. So the state lost millions from the tribes and the US for wildlife in the state. No compact with the tribes means no funds from the US! The tribal members have always been able to hunt and fish their land without a state license so ID cards are proof them are within their sovereign rights! The IDs are issued by the Department of the Interior, Bureau of Indian Affairs after proof of blood quantum. Not the tribes so you can't buy one. My wife is a non-Indian so........! Get on with it and happy trapping!
PS: the state didn't give em casinos! The US congress did! Casino's are a small part of their many enterprises. Their economic impact was 3.2 billion in 2021 and rising. Read up on how many jobs they give to the state! Good to know . Appreciate the explanation.
Honor a Soldier. Be the kind of American worth fighting for.

An ol boy my father knows was in a casino in Arizona once and won a decent bit of money. He cashed out and was driving down the only road that led to and from the casino when he was stopped by some indians. They beat the crap out of him and stole back the money. After they left he retrieved the shotgun from the back of his car and blew out their casino sign lights. He drove down the highway and pulled into a store and asked the clerk if he had made it to whatever town he was heading to. The clerk took one look at him, laughed and said no buddy you haven’t made it that far yet but don’t worry we ain’t got any Indians here either. Evidently it was a common occurrence.

Read up on how many jobs they give to the state! We don't really have "reservations" in Oklahoma. I know the Indians want to claim territory as theirs but the vast majority of land within those historic boundaries is owned by Whites. The exception would be Osage County. The Osage Tribe owns all of the minerals in that county. Whites own the majority of the surface in Osage County. My place is within the historic boundaries of the Cheyenne and Arapaho territory. Maybe it was a reservation at some point. But it is my property. Any CnA on my place without permission would be trespassing. The Supreme Court created a lot of chaos with McGirt. Casinos are a whole other jacked up issue....
