It finally happened, this whole year I have been scanning the slough bottoms hoping to find an old float. Well, I was at the spot where I had lost that float the other day due to ice and had just gotten out to reset the last float and I saw this piece of 3/8" rebar sticking out of the slough about 3 feet. I got over there thinking it's a farmer's way of marking a culvert. I look down and I see a weird looking object that looked to be like a tray and that's when it dawned on me. So I raked it up onto shore with my potato rake and didn't see any traps but I did have wire, chainrings, and a couple of links of rusted chain. I start raking the bottom and find one right away hooked it through the spring of the longspring. The other though took about 5 minutes to find, both are Victor #1 Longsprings. No trap tags if there were any they're long gone by now. This float had been there a while. Now I need to figure out a way to display the float and traps since this was a bucket list achievement for me. Anyways enough with my rambling about old traps and rotten wood. Here's how I did on the trapline today, 27 rats, 3 or 4 smalls. Got home, and dried them in the dryer (best thing ever). Skinned them out and got 26/27 skinned out without a mishap, had one that just ripped to shreds so I threw it in the carcass bucket. Only have them skinned now but will finish putting them up tomorrow after trap shooting practice. Also had a buddy drop off 2 beavers for me to skin that he wants to be tanned so now looks like I'm the friend group's custom skinner, more practice for me though. Here are the pictures from today. For some reason can't upload the photo of the float but I'll figure it out tomorrow when I have time.

Looks like you’re having a great spring season. Yep, only my second season doing it too.

Hope you hit your goal before they're bit up to bad to trap I hope so too, I've had a few bad ones that will most likely either get tossed or sold for very little. Any of them that are too bad though get thrown in the carcass bucket which has been 2 so far.

Nice dog! You spend lots of time with and you can tell its happy and healthy. Nothing like having a good dog. Yep, I try to spend as much time as possible, she usually comes along on the land lines. She goes shed hunting with us, drives around, and runs down dirt roads behind the truck. She loves anything and everything outdoors.

$10 coons we haven't seen here for a long time now. All our seasons have been over for a long time. You have quite a lengthy season where you live.

Yeah, we have a tail bounty here for nest predators. Most stuff is year round except for mink, weasel, and muskrat. And those run from Nov. 1st until January 31st and then Nov. 1st until April 30th for Rats.
