I was watching a show the other night called, Funny You Should Ask. It's a show that has 6 comedians that are asked true or false questions. They always have a funny answer to the question, but they do say if the question they were asked is true or false. Then the contestant either disagrees or agrees with the comedian.

One question was, "If a polar bear were to attack you, the safest thing to do would be to strip naked." The comedian said, "That's because your clothing might get caught in its teeth!" Then the comedian said it was a ridiculous statement and of course it was false. The contestant agreed with the comedian that it was false. But, the commentator said, "Believe it or not, it's true!"

Now, am I missing something here? That has to be a falsehood.

My doctor suggested I start doing squats, so I moved all the beer to the bottom shelf of my fridge.

Living in MN, I don't know much about polar bears. But you in AK, this is a farce, right?

I have zero experience with polar bears, but I do have a few thoughts.

If it protected you from the polar bear you would just freeze to death.

It would take longer to disrobe than it would for the polar bear to kill you.

I have seen video of polar bears trying to get at the people in artic tourist vehicles. The video may have been more entertaining if the tourists were getting naked.

Is the idea that the polar bear thinks the human is a seal but won't if you are white instead of black like a seal? If so, what to do if you are a black dude? What about that thing about seal pups being born white?

Will the polar bear think a naked white guy is another polar bear? A pathetic skinny polar bear and so it just kills you but doesn't eat you maybe? What a relief!

Causes a polar bear to be more concerned about what your planning on doing to him than him thinking about what he's going to do to you.
Works if your wife is angry too

We were at the st Louis zoo I think and a polar bear was up close to the glass making a good show. It stood on its hind legs and all at once came down on its front paws like it was falling from orbit. It's intended target was a young boy probably under 5 just on the other side of the glass. I'm so glad that glass held. That boy would have been dead so quickly. My family got away from the vicinity. That kid and his parents stayed in place having a good time. That bears speed and power were amazing.

You can run faster without all those heavy cloths on. You're still gonna die about 30 yards from your clothes, but the bear may not choke on a mitten.

Curious as to how they proved this true.

I've heard that with brown-black bears , dropping your pack or other items will distract the bear which gives you more time to flee. The bear will pause at the items you have dropped because of your scent or food odors.

Take your clothes off. When they find whats left over they can send it to your family.

Maybe Cragar has it right. The bear will get preoccupied with your clothes. I can't imagine a hungry bear wouldn't figure out you weren't in your clothes after you shed them.

Ok, so who’s going to test this? I would but we don’t have them here?

I've been up on the north slope chasing arctic fox parts of the last two seasons. In 2022, while I was out scouting, I looked down and saw polar bear tracks. I immediately looked all around for a pair of black eyes and a black nose. Luckily, our paths didn't cross. (Although I did see a couple polar bears from a respectable distance on that same trip). Fast forward to 2023. A couple natives were killed by a polar bear in the western part of Alaska. After reading about the incident, I made dang sure that I brought along a 44 mag loaded with Montana bear loads for the trip. I would have preferred my old duty riot shotgun loaded with slugs. Unfortunately, I was limited on how much I could fly in with, so I opted for the handgun. Never saw a bear track or bear on this year's trip.
They are magnificent animals.
