Did you see were this Virginia guy has been selling Box Turtles for the past couple of years. Suppose to have made over 13.000 dollars. How did the Feds not see/hear of this....... Hope they throw the book at him.

I did not know it was illegal and I hate them. They are hard on the Tomato plants.

Pretty much the only turtles you can buy and sell are the ones you can eat,
in the states that do allow it. Snapper and softshells.

Is it illegal to keep one as a pet? Think every kid where box turtles are common has had one as a pet even if only for a month or so.

We 've always had turtle races on the 4th of July .

I stop for every one crossing the road and move them to safety, I've seen morons around here swerve to run them over...who would do that?

I do the same. I help them across the road in the direction of their travel and have done so with many black rat snakes that stop to indulge on the warm hardtop. Or like stated there are some that will go out of their way to run over any wildlife they can.

Can`t tell ya how many I've moved doing my school bus runs. Kids loved it and sure hope they pass it on.

Speaking of box turtles, I was out taking a walk this morning and last night something found a box turtle, shattered it's shell and ate it. Would that be a bear, coyote, Bobcat, racoon?

I move them on the road and on the farm when on the tractor and mower. Sometimes I don't always see them on the mower or tractor tell the next pass.

I came across a pair mating on the farm one and a female laying eggs another time. Probably won't see either again in my lifetime.

Love seeing those red eyes.

Saw this one turkey hunting this weekend. Can't say as I've seen one this yellow before. Neat critter.

Nice one. I had a very large one on the farm with a lot of yellow but not that much. Kids called him Bob I moved him out of the mower path one day and saw Bob was a girl. I saw Bob regularly over a few years and moved her A few times. Then one day I didn't see Bob to move her. R.I.P Bob.

I really enjoy watching them when I'm out and about. Saw one eating a Mario mushroom one time that I'm pretty sure thought he was having a conversation with god the way he was looking at me with his eyes watering. When I was a kid my uncle had a bird dog that would carry box turtles up to the yard daily. My uncle started marking them to see if it was the same ones. I think he had marked 20 something before he got a repeat. Didn't realize how many were around at least back then.

Found this micro turtle a couple years ago. In the middle of a huge parking lot , near a swamp. Must have just hatched. I took it back to the swampy area before it got squashed by a car.
