NC has a 14 day spring squirrel season for the first time. We have only had Fall seasons. I have no idea where to find squirrels in the Spring. During deer season, they are in my bait piles.

Where do squirrels gather in the Spring? How do you hunt them.

they were out early in the morning a little after sun up congregating in trees a coupe weeks ago here , we were at deer camp and they were very much like what they are during deer season trees hadn't leafed out yet
less active on the ground they were doing a lot more tree to tree , then again it was only a week or two after the snows melted

we don't have a season in the spring but land owners can take them on their own property.

Not sure about your part of US. We open in late May and if Mulberry trees are producing when yours open it’s a blast. Right now my home area they are working on maple seeds as they fall hope this helps

Thanks. I know I can bait them to lanes at my deer stand, but that is too expensive for a mess of tree rats.

I getm Charles my dog and I usually find them still picking up black walnuts left over from fall/winter season starts Saturday before memorial day I tryn make the opener..

I don’t hunt in the spring but sure it would work then too. Squirrels are very territorial and curious.

Mo has a very long Squirrel season, 27 May to15 Feb, and the place to find them early season is mulberry trees!

I hunt them pretty hard the first month or so of the Missouri season.
When season opens, in North Missouri anyway, the mulberry’s aren’t ripe yet. It’s usually close to mid June before they are. Typically they aren’t concentrated on any food source, however they are very active and their numbers are good. The first litters are out and about. I find lots on the ground. Still hunting through quality habitat typically gets me a limit fairly easily.
The first week of August the hickory’s ripen and then it’s game on. They pay rent for a couple months starting then.

Find you a mulberry tree and you’ve found gold!

Season opener, in Missouri you have 2 or 3 weeks before it heats up for summer. Out there around daylight sitting in the woods drinking coffee. I generally hear them in the new spring leaves before I see them. No fresh leaves on the ground like fall so it's quiet and you can come up on them pretty easy. Scope .22 or 20 gauge full choke. Good stuff. Watch out for copperheads. LOL

I saw some half grown squirrels out during Turkey season. Used to have a mulberry at an old house place and it was squirrel central.

I had a good time watching a litter of young grays the other afternoon. Lil bitty guys out venturing around........appears they can squeeze into a hole the size of a quarter. they are curious lil things and just come around the tree to look at you - probably what gets a ton of them killed. I think they eat quite a bit of the hickory blooms and oak tassels early season. I have a large oak and hickory in my front yard by my recliner and I watch lots of young ones nibbling on the hickory blooms.

Now! That’s a squirrel hunting machine!!! I hope he smokes them!!

That little turd turns 6 tomorrow. He is ready for squirrel season.He’s got a .410 he can handle pretty good. Not sure who’s more excited, him or grandpa lol.
