Let me ask the cast iron experts if I made a good deal on this cast iron chicken fryer #8? No name or marking anywhere on it that I can find. Picked it up at a yard sale for $20, did I do good or spend to much? The handle is not cracked it's made that way if anybody wants to know. Also does anybody how an idea who might be the manufacture of it?

No nothing other then the two number #8's one being on the handle and the lid.

That looks to be an older Lodge - the cover for sure. Likely the skillet is, but a pic of the bottom would help confirm.

Just saw a #8 lid and pot like yours on eBay for #259.95.

need to see the bottom to tell more but 20 dollars definitely worth that

a new lodge SK8 will run you 19.99

and lids as long as they fit matter little

that 8 looks like the 1910 era lodge font and placement , they made a lot of nameless pans for different stores back then , but the font tells you who actually made it

It has a heat ring...so definitely older.

Clean that bottom up...might have some clues

I'd say Lodge, mid to late 1930's. There were some no notch patterns reused around that time. Also, with the inset heat ring, no notch, V'ish handle the skillet could be a BSR, I don't think BSR used a raised number so I think they're both Lodge. Nice, look forward to seeing it stripped and reseasoned!

Yup...any pan saying "Made in the USA" ..is dated 1960 or newah.

Well I guess it's not the same lol, looked a like to me but I'm no cast iron pro.
