Bought some more land a few years ago that is close to the main ranch. It is homesteaded land with some 100 plus old living quarters and a small shop and set of corrals. At one time they had water there but not sure where. Last year I hand augured with a homemade auger I built and augured down and drove a shallow water well. This is very remote area and now will have water for a horse for the summer months and will plant some vive plants inside the old corral. I was using the handle to pump water, but I installed a gas engine and seems to work pretty well. I need to get a v-belt just used a piece of rope which was all I had a few days ago when I tested it. Here is a short video. I hope it works. [video:google] https://drive.google.com/file/d/1gwzbm8yEE9O8T3TP4fSs8cb_4elHvqLH/view?usp=share_link[/video]

Looks good to me. I like the rope for a belt.

What was the gear box from? Was it intended for a pump? Never seen that. Yep intended for water pumps. There is a lot of them in this country because of remote places. Way to costly for power and other methods of extracting water.

My grandfather homesteaded in eastern CO by Pueblo after WWI, they were hauling water 5 miles in a tank wagon and never did drill into any water, gave up and worked building wing dams for irrigation before moving back to WI. Worked for Waukesha Motors and then after WWII started building houses with my Dad who is 96.

Snowy, How deep is your well? I helped pull a pump jack well that was 130 feet deep. It was about 20 below and wind blowing. There was on old wind mill towner that ran the pump at one time. We had a one inch grass rope block and tackle we used for lifting pipe and rod. 20 foot sections. The leathers were shot in the pump. We had a fish house with a propane heater in it to thaw out and dry gloves. They watered 200 head of cows with that old pump.

My well is about 17 feet to water. You are right this type of pump and cylinder chamber is for deep wells and will bring water from 100 plus feet down. I but a deep well system on a shallow well. Was a lot of tweaking and I made a lot of the moving parts because stuff you can't find anymore. I dug a 4-foot deep pit below the pump jack and all my chamber and check valve is all in that pit so I can get to it easy. I pull 5 gallons in about 45 seconds.

I just pulled one of those a month ago and replaced it with a solar pump. It went into storage with a couple others that I have. Pretty sure they will come in handy in the future. Nice video thanks

Nice video thanks I don't believe there is any place to buy a gear box anymore. Do you know if you can still buy them???

You would think some place would still make them. Wind mills are still used quite a bit in some places.
