Have had State Farm since 1966. My father owned a auto body shop. Most jobs he would wait until the check came before starting a job. If the auto owner had State Farm, he would just order the parts and go for it. Never considered not being paid. Roy

Well, last night I called the Allstate manager of the adjuster that called me and left a message. You know, he didn't even have the common decency to call me back. He had some crony call me. When I asked for the manager I called, he said,"he's busy and told me to handle this". He then just parroted what the guy last night said. That was it. Filed complaints with the PA Attorney General's office, the BBB and Pa Department of insurance this morning. Also began the search for new insurance. I have a broker looking into it now.

Here's the draft letter I sent. I had to cut it short for the BBB and PA department of insurance. You can only have 2000 characters, but the Attorney General got the entire thing. To be realistic, I doubt anything will come of this. I'm pretty sure they will side with Allstate and tell me to get a contractor estimate for a repair, but it's worth a try, I suppose.
Roughly 5 weeks ago I sustained wind damage to my roof. This has been an ongoing problem for the past few years and I have been paying for repairs out of pocket. However, this past incident I had water leaks in the upstairs bath, the attic and the guest bedroom closet. I finally decided to file a claim with my homeowners insurance. I contacted Allstate and told them about the issues (claim number xxx xxx xxxx) I was told it would be two weeks before an inspector could get to me. I made that appointment and two weeks later, after spending the day waiting, no inspector ever came. I called Allstate the next day and was told they had to make yet another appointment and it would be another week. Finally, the inspector came, took pictures and inspected the roof. I also showed the inspector the water damage and where the water was coming in from. During the three week wait for this inspector, I once again paid for repairs out of pocket to mitigate any more water damage. I also called contractors and received an estimate for a new roof. Water has been getting under the tar paper and shingles and coming into the home. That will need replaced since the underlayment will be saturated and will not be able to dry properly. This is black mold issue. Finally I was contacted by Allstate yesterday. They want me to get an estimate for a contractor to replace 11 shingles. They said they would pay if any other damage is discovered during the repair. Since the inspector came a week and a half ago, I have since found even more shingles in the yard that have just blown off the roof. With all of the storm damage in my area, getting a contractor to come and give me an estimate for 11 shingles is not really going to happen. I will be wasting their time and my time. The time frame I’m looking at for a new roof is June at the earliest and could be as late as September. That’s the earliest the roofers can accommodate me, they have no time for such a bogus exercise in futility. I told the Allstate representative they could send someone else out and they refused. What was the inspector, for whom I waited weeks, even for? As far as I’m concerned, Allstate is trying to curb there expense of storm damage in the area at my expense. This amounts to fraud in my opinion. Had they offered to pay for 50% or 75% of the replacement cost, I would have been fine with that. I see no reason to get greedy nor did I expect Allstate to pay for an entire replacement. However, they are steadfast in their “policy” and refuse to properly fix this issue and honor this claim. Why did they sell me a fraudulent homeowners policy? I tried to contact a manager at Allstate and he did not even have the decency to call me back. Some subordinate called me and just parroted what the first adjuster told me. I have gotten nowhere and consider this entire ordeal an insult to my family and my property. In the roughly 12 years we have owned this home, Allstate has always been paid on time amounting to thousands of dollars and I have never filed a claim with them before.

It's always best to get the contractor and the adjuster out at the same time to assess the damages. When I advised that to my insureds, there were seldom any problems. There is nothing worse than an adjuster writing his estimate only later to have the contractors say they can't do the work based on the adjuster's estimate. When they meet together they can usually fairly estimate the damages and come to an agreed price.

Finster does your policy give either party right of appraisal? It is different state by state but in Texas, it requires each party to assign the dispute out to an independent. These 2 "opposing" parties meet at your loss site and come to an agreement. If they cannot, and umpire they have both agreed to makes the decision. If at least 2 parties are in agreement, it is legally binding.
I think I am 23 put of 24 against Allstate this year. In talking to other seasoned and reputable independent adjusters they are finding against Allstate in roughly the same lopsided proportion.
If what you have already done does not get you a favorable remedy consider checking into it.

.
To my knowledge, PA does not have arbitration. Secondly, I do not understand this sentence, can you elaborate?

I meant to say that this year so far, I accepted 24 disputed claims against that company. 24 homeowners told me over the phone, that Allstate had underpaid their claim and they paid me to represent their position during the appraisal process.
Of those 24, Allstate would have to pay their own appraiser to meet with me and articulate (defend if possible) their position. In meeting with 24 other professionals, 23 of them said (in numbers with zeros at the end) "we were wrong".
Now if you combine that percentage and know that their are 100s of competent appraisers doing what I am doing with roughly similar results, it means that the title of this thread hits the nail on the head.

Allstate e-mailed me a survey link wanting to know how my claim is going and how satisfied I am..... LMAO! Guess how that went! By the way, I dropped them today, effective Sunday at 11:59pm

My wife thinks that all these insurance companies took a beating with covid 19 paying out all the life policies & are now trying to recoup monies, Trying to save on anything they can. On the phone again today with State Farm, Aside from the rot & rodent damage, They do not want to cover the replacement cost of my 12 x 24 deck. We have been with them over 19 years and never had a claim.
