How long do bob kitties hang out with their mother? Are they born in spring, and disperse the next spring? Got scouting on my mind.

Everything I read is that they become independent at ages 7 - 12 months of age.

They are usually traveling with or the general vicinity of mom the next winter. I will see some yearling/kitten tracks where they are on their own, but the majority of them will hang around with the female until the next breeding season. Which around here is the end of January and February.

I’ve seen what I assumed was the mother and 3 kittens in December while deer hunting a buddies place. These were about the size of a small housecat.

How long y'all figure it takes a young tom to establish a new territory? Want to start a bit of looking next month.
