I have flaking concrete on my chimney cap. Is there an easy fix? I know zero about this kind of stuff. [Linked Image]

I would use the grinder to smooth that out get the loose stuff off and make it paintable then paint it with a concrete epoxy paint so that it sheds the water

something like this maybe

Could you provide a better picture? Where you live with freeze thaw like here concrete probably not the best.

Sorry
That's the best picture I've got.

Could it be replaced with a metal cap. The picture looks like the area around the chimney where it comes through the roof.

Have a friend with two seafood markets on the coast. Every March, he empties the markets and uses a two-part epoxy paint to coat the concrete floors. Paints up the wall a few inches as well. Those floors get scrubbed with Chlorox every night for about 8 months. The paint holds up to traffic and scrubbing very well. The day after painting, the residual paint in the roller tray can be peeled off in one piece. It is somewhat flexible, so I think it would expand and contract in an outdoor environment. It is a marine paint made for outside use.
