I want to get myself a nice present for my B Day ( if U want something , best is to get it yourself) and plan on getting a 1911 in 45 ACP.. unless I can find a nice Henry Lever action in 45/70 that catches my fancy. I don't want a lower dollar import but a midrange price will fit the bill. I am open to comments or suggestions as I do my research . An online gun retailer has several in stock.... but no Colts. I wouldn't mind a Colt if I can find one reasonable. A Springfield also would do. Thanks in advance !!

Don't knock all imports. Some are quite good.

BTW Springfields were originally Brazilian inmports.

I think you owe it to yourself to buy the 45 acp and the 45/70.

You can spend more money on a Springfield, I have one, but my son's Rock Island is every bit as good as the Springfield and several hundred dollars less. Why pay for a name when you can get a 1911 that is equal for less money?

The old Norinco's were excellent!

I have nothing clever to put here.

Rock Island Armory makes some great ones for cheap, don't overlook them.

I shoot all manner of Kimbers, but I have to say Rock Island Armory makes a decent firearm at a fair price.

You can still get a new, basic Colt for $800-$1000. I bought mine in stainless in 2018. I haven’t regretted it not one time. There’s something about having an honest to goodness Colt. It’s an itch that no other off brand can scratch.

Kinda like if you want a 45-70….and settling for something like a Henry instead of a Winchester 1886.

But then maybe I’m just a snob for Colts and Winchesters.

I love my stainless steel Springfield Armory. Never a misfire or a jam. Can't say that about others I've owned.

I have three Kimbers and a Sig. They all shoot great with great triggers and control. I think I have 3 left I might have gifted one already or maybe it was just “pregifted” without my gifting knowledge, lol.

Some of the Turkish 1911s have been getting great reviews and were not much over $300 a month or so ago.

I sure like my colt 1911 desert elite in 10mm. As was stated earlier get the 45 and the 45/70. I think Henry makes the Buffalo classic that would be a welcome addition to my gun collection.

^ This....Look into the Tisas 1911A1 Tank Commander or the full size 1911A1, they cost $350 - $400.

All steel & the sights are straight (many new Colt's have a canted front sight)....But most importantly, model 70 series internals, no BS series 80 stuff.

Forged steel slide & frame, cerakote finish, absolutely the best 1911.45 ACP out there for the $$, IMO.

I'm a rifle guy, but I've been looking at the Kimbers. I really like Wilson Combat bit they are way, way too pricey just to shoot once or twice a year.

Don't know what is considered mid-range price. But a friend that I used to work with at Springfield later went to Les Baer, and eventually opened his own custom repair 1911 shop mentioned to me that for a factory gun Dan Wesson's are hard to beat.

Springfield has been machining their own slides and frames for quite a number of years now.
