I have a Kimber and a Dan Wesson. The Kimber is a nice pistol. The Dan Wesson is a VERY nice pistol.
They are a bit expensive, made by CZ nowadays.

The old Norinco's were excellent!

^ This....Look into the Tisas 1911A1 Tank Commander or the full size 1911A1, they cost $350 - $400.

All steel & the sights are straight (many new Colt's have a canted front sight)....But most importantly, model 70 series internals, no BS series 80 stuff.

Forged steel slide & frame, cerakote finish, absolutely the best 1911.45 ACP out there for the $$, IMO.

Like said above if you do get a colt go with the series 70 guts, all it takes is a little research to find out why to avoid the 80 series if you can

Lots of good advice above, I am a big 1911 fan, and have or have had many of the ones mentioned above and all have largely been good to excellent

This has been my primary daily carry for a good while and I am glad I took White17s recommendation and bought it when he told me he had one it’s a Kimber Pro carry I also have a pro carry 2 and both have been highly reliable

This one was my dads it a military colt and the serial number dates it to 1918, it was issued to him during WW2 and it was among 3 pistols he personally owned and used , he had it customized back in the late 50/60 or so not really sure but he used it to shoot in matches and I have boxes of ribbons and trophies he won with it. I have had people chide me about it being customized but heck back then it was maybe a 25$ gun, I well remember seeing barrels in gun shops with 25 dollars your choice on them

My late eldest brothers 1911 that he bought back with him from Vietnam, when he was killed in a motorcycle accident his wife asked me if I wanted it otherwise she was going to have it thrown out along with several other things she didn’t like, of course I took it
